This is a gift to the City of Portland in regards to the upcoming contract negotiations. There are obviously a few cops that need to be fired, Westerman included. The good cops out there should recognize this, time to step up if you want to regain the trust of Portlanders.
2
Like Portland streets are awash in Smart cars. I see that Mr Ruffin, who was threatened by Sgt Nice (alledgedly) is suing Sgt Nice and the city for $145,ooo. The PPD needs a complete house cleaning.
3
Yeah, I think it's a little strange that he found the car a second time the next day, after she had reported him.

Who is going to save us from these people? Certainly not Saltzman. As much as I hate Randy, I have to say he should be the police commissioner, just dropped on the Police Bureau like a tazmanian devil to wreck shop.
4
Another quiet Saturday scoop for Maxine.
5
Just LOOK at the photo. Someone please, quick, photoshop a bulldog in a way that you can still recognize Westermann's features, because that's EXACTLY what he looks like.
6
"It's just a very bad coincidence....that it has come to light that I am a half-cocked disaster in the making and completely unfit to be a police officer. Just a very bad coincidence. I've apologized , OK? Alright? Got that? Now get the fuck out of my face."
7
Turn's out Westerman was right, he is Chris Humphrey's...
8
Can someone just give econoline the comment of the week award right now?
9
The award goes to Maxine. But Matt takes second, the photo is epic.
10
And who exactly is going to control the Police?

It is not the current Police Commissioner and sure as hell is not the Mayor. Yet, all of the little hipsters in Blogtown had to buy into the lies about the recall and conveniently ignore that the city of Portland is running a drift with no leadership.

And this is what happens. You can sing stand by your Sam as loud as you want while Portland burns, or you can grab a bucket and help restore our city.

The choice is yours and it starts with recalling Sam Adams.
11
Analysis: douchebag.
12

Funny you should mention that. Mr. Westerman was among the earliest and loudest calling for Sam's ouster.

So you're saying that in order to keep Portland from running adrift due to guys like Westerman, we should have heeded Westerman's ultimatum?

Portland Tribune - "Police union head to Adams: Resign now"

"She got the motorist's license plate and description of the car, a silver Pontiac Grand Am, and called police on a non-emergency line. For some reason that's unclear, police told her they were unable to locate the license plate."

My how mysterious!

So either Westerman is just a totally out-of-control road-raging scary person, or he's a totally out-of-control road-raging scary person who is using the resources of a corrupt police department to track down and harass people who try to call him on being a totally out-of-control road-raging scary person. Either way, yeah, he's got to go.

Let's go through the list of what an ordinary citizen would have been charged with already:

Misdemeanors:
*Disorderly Conduct X 2 (imagine a protester that blocks a roadway by stepping one foot out onto a road outside a crosswalk)
*Menacing
*Stalking
*Reckless Driving X2

Should we assume the DUII charge? That would require the police to follow up on 911 charges and go interview the crazy driver with road rage. The disorderly conduct is confessed to by Westerman. The stalking charge is tougher, but a good case can be made.

My favorite part of the article is "He said he hadn't been drinking and was not under the influence of any controlled substance or medication." I think the LACK of medication is the problem here. Mr. Westerman, you really should be taking your meds. You know how you get when you don't. You could get killed out there if you go off your meds and say the wrong thing to a police officer or don't respond properly to typical urban interactions.

The police chief immediately needs to see who in the police bureau has done a records check on this woman. They will be able to determine whether anyone has improperly been using the computers to check on records or addresses. It is rather improbable that someone would road rage against the same person in a different part of town days later. A simple records check will see who looked up Ms. Thompson's information and when.
15
Fear Not - the Oregonian just endorsed Saltzman because he "has bucked the powerful police union" and has a "consistently courageous voice and the true center of gravity on this council."

Just vote for Dan and all will be well... according to the Oregonian.
16
Westerman has already killed one mentally ill women. Terrible. How many more?
17
@Bob R,
I might be 4'11" & indefatigably hip... but you're talking enraged apples to amorous oranges.

Westerman is a "keeper of the peace", terrorizing morning commuters and getting his buddies at the precinct to join in on the justice obstructing party. Adams is a politician that lied about sex with a hot, ditzy 18 year old (which the lucky among us have all fibbed about on occasion).

Westerman is doing the exact opposite of what the City pays him to do. Adams answers to the voters--who've spoken three times (that's "3", "tres", "III") in a little over a year. Until the next actual election, new subject please.
18
@Night Moves

I think we are generally in agreement. You may have misunderstood my comment. (The first line was meant to be quoted, I was arguing with to "Too cool for school".)
19
Portland Police have become completely untrustworthy, unsafe, and out of control. Their empty apologies are hollow and worthless.

In addition to their $5 Million(!) over budget, the Portland Police are now costing us hundreds of thousands in court cases for legal judgments against them.

I'm calling the FBI to make a formal complaint. I'd like to see a Federal investigation.

And I'll vote for any council member who promises to clean house. And by "clean house," I mean "fire." No juicy pensions for these guys while people in Portland are out of work.
20
So what if he may be an armed, aggro-stalker type? Westerman gets point in my book for the diabolical looking suit he's wearing in the photo. That devilish cum-catcher he has growing around his mouth really compliments the ensemble. Yow!
21
@Bob R--noted. Now lets get back to making out with teenagers.
22
With contract negotiations coming up, perhaps she is an agent of the city employed to provoke Westerman into a confrontation. The same lady on two separate days? A little too coincidental.
Or perhaps an agent of any number of anti-police groups to add more flames to the fire of unjust negative publicity the bureau has been receiving lately.
23
Remember in school where the bad teachers became the coaches and then principals? We have been talking about "a few bad apples" in the Portland Police Department. It would be pretty tragic if the "bad apples" were the ones promoted to Sgt. and above or to union boss.
24
Too late R. I think they already have been. And if you are a good Portland cop, you must be terribly ashamed and embarassed by all this crap.
25
Hey, i just found something that is borderline hysterical-funny, a quote from Amanda Fritz about Westerman, from four years ago.

"Scott Westerman served as one of the neighborhood liaison officers to SW Portland for several years. He is the epitome of everything good about Portland's police. I trust Scott to do the right thing in difficult situations. He is thoughtful, caring, and connected to the community."

Said with a very English accent and prim, thoughtful arching of the eyebrows.

Wow, time to start a coffeebaggers movement.

And I'm sorry noone see the connection between failed leadership at the top of this rubbish heap and the maggots crawling around the subsurface.

27
need to find out who took her first call and tanked the follow up by "not finding" the license plate number.
thanks
Patrick
28
@therealtruth, he admitted to it, and his version is very similar to hers so I don't think she is some kind of agent provocateur, he claims he didn't realize it was the same person both times, but that is clearly b.s. they were driving a @#$#ing smart car!
29
Unbe-fucking-lievable.
30
I agree with Blabby on the Randy bit. He's the only one with enough of what the O calls "gumption" to handle the PPB. He should have had it in the first place. Anyone else have a job where they get to go to the CEO and whine, "But I don't want HIM to be my boss!" and the head honcho makes it happen? I don't think so, and Rosie Sizer should have absolutely no say in who oversees her bureau.

And yes, econoline gets Comment of the Week.
31
The "Rap Sheet" said that the IPR was "Gestapo" I wonder what they will think of Randy?
Randy, if you are watching this thread, are you still interested in being responsible for the police? and if so, what can a private citizen do to help you set our police on the right path?
thanks
Patrick
32
Good call, Patrick. I know Randy reads blog comments as feedback (one of the few who can be trusted to look for unfavorable input).

What can we do to help, Randy? A lot of people don't like you (I do) for one reason or another, but there's a general consensus that you are the best hope we have for real accountability for the PPB. How do we help you get us there?

I'm willing to put together a community forum for you, if that would help. We can be sure to lose Saltzman's invitation in the mail.
33
Man, that is one chubby little piggy!
34
Love the dick target, Scott. What an absolute douchebag.

Hopefully this incident, along with Kyle Nice's sweet little road rage tirade pulling his gun out last week, will be enough to turn the tables on the PPB.

This is absolutely unbelievable.
35
What's so wrong with dick targets?
36
Er, nothing. Nothing at all. :sheepishly runs away:
37
Sooooo, we gonna open it up to Blogtown interaction of the week?
38
I got a nice story about westerman and how he tried to ruin my marriage.

Please wait...
