Because the future for the recording industry and its business models are so bright?

This would've been an awesome idea for Washington High, instead of the community center or whatever that's slated for it. Why won't they open that up as a high school again?

Jefferson used to be an Arts Magnet school..

Because nothing is better for kids than parents sending them to a school that specializes in the parents' own interests, instead of letting the kids find out for themselves what they might be interested in.

As a quick clarification:
The non-profit, Freedom Thru Freestyle, received a $55,000 planning grant from ODE in April of 2009 to do the work needed to get charter approval from the district. After the unanimous PPS Board approval for this best-practice & research based pedagogy and curriculum, a contract was signed with the district guaranteeing the public school operations funds once the school opens in Fall 2011. When the charter was signed, an additional $550,000 of federal grant funds was allocated to Freedom Thru Freestyle through ODE for many of the start up costs associated with preparing a charter school to open. However, no funds from that grant money can be used for rent, lease, or purchase of a site. There is no "if" as to the opening. The resources available are there to do what needs to be done to open the school and then operate it beginning in Fall 2011. The community support has been substantial and the students are indeed the ones insuring that this is a much needed option for our city.

I agree. The former Washington High building would be ideal. It's right in the middle of the city and it's definitely big enough.
