Great interview! I am concerned, though, that it seems like there is an effort to throw Powell's in with some others in the book industry that are troubled. This seems to be without acknowledgment that, as Ryan said, Powell's is a completely different animal.

The markup on used books is significantly larger than new. Besides that, Powell's has many things going for it (e.g., excellent customer service, economies of scale, world-renowned tourist attraction, high profile internet business, etc) that most other independent bookstores don't have. Dear press: Please, don't try to frame Powell's as troubled without any information to validate that. Thanks!
