Denis, didn't you get the memo from Janet Incompetano? You can't use the word "terrorism" anymore, you must use “man-caused disasters”.

I am not a fan of cops. Actually, I hate cops way more than my intellect/instinct should allow, but even *I* am okay with this. Assuming the affidavit etc was reporting real facts (big assumption but what else have we) then this kid had intent. The FBI kept telling him he had to 'follow his heart' and gave him other options, ways he could serve the cause without a bomb. He had engineering skills, they encouraged him to supply those, rather than another suicide bomb. He continued to assert that he wanted to kill people, so they went along to see how far he'd go. He had plenty of places where he could turn back, no one was pushing him. The kid INTENDED to kill. They gave him the rope to prove it. I'm not upset.. actually, sorta impressed. This may be my first example of security NON-theater.

I was going to point out the facility and skill with which the FBI is planning and carrying out terror attacks across the U.S., but fruhmenschen, above, seems to have beaten me to it.

What threat did this kid pose before he was approached by the FBI? Would anything have come of his disaffection and anger? He was clearly encouraged and enabled by the FBI to do it. And isn't it remarkable that when they recorded everything else they forgot to record the conversation that is supposed to prove it wasn't entrapment?

I don't mind when the FBI catches criminals but I have a problem with them creating criminals just so it can produce high-level convictions.

I dunno but thinking of disaffected and angry people a few names come to mind like Kip Kinkel, Eric Harris, Dylan Klebold, Seung-Hui Cho. What I do know is Mohomed demonstrated a willingness to go through the steps to acquire a bomb and went through with trying to detonate the fake bomb even though he knew it would kill women and children if it had been real.

Who knows if Mohomed would have just forgot about his desire to kill a whole bunch of people, but I'd rather the FBI control the situation with an individual who expressed his interest in it rather than letting him go on his merry way. He could have just as easily turned up at the tree lighting ceremony with an assault rifle, which are a lot easier to get hold of than a truck bomb, and the FBI doesn't have the resources to tail everyone they get wind of who might commit a crime at some point. So the idea that the FBI was creating a criminal in this case sounds borderline delusional.
