What if it's all a game? What if the married couple are both poly and just not letting GOTS in on it?

I mean, one tends to hope for the best possible outcome.

@ Scrum, yeah that seems pretty likely. I think Savage readers tend to overestimate the the poly population.

I don't tend to hope for the best outcome. Like Dan, I think there's a huge proportion of his readers who just read for the gross-out stuff and pick and choose from the ethics stuff whatever suits whatever the fuck they feel like doing.

It's pretty obvious how frustrating that is for Dan when they e-mail him with BS like this and think they're in the right in his mind. Hence, another clarifying decree.

Seems Dan is in a slight advice dilemma if he claims on one hand we're non-monogamous creatures of habit, but on the other we can only cheat under certain conditions.

We're animals. We like to fuck. Shouldn't we just go with the assumption that we will fuck when we want to fuck, and leave it like that? The problem is with the assumption of monogamy in *any* relationship, and the social idea that it is *wrong* to fuck others.

@stringofbarf,

Not sure why I'm engaging on this, but like most things in life, there's a counterbalance to your line of logic ("we like to fuck, therefore we should never stop fucking everything we want to fuck"), and it's possessiveness, jealousy, violence and general disorder. (None of this is to judge or declare invalid the successfully nonmonagomous, mind you, just stating a general principle the way you were)

I enjoy eating, but I understand that there are good reasons that I don't just eat everything I want to eat all the time. I guess I can consider it a "problem" that I can't, but that doesn't really get me anywhere other than an accurate formulation of reality.

I think Dan Savage's objection is how much shit ancillary to fucking this professor dude is into. That's worrisome, it implies the fucking is just icing on the being-shitty cake.

Please wait...
