@WSH WOW!!! What a controversial claim, Steve!! You mean that the current cast of SNL is not as good as the ones from the 90s or 80s!!!! Next you'll be saying that the recent episodes of the Simpsons aren't as good as the first couple of seasons!!!!!!!!

GAWD! Keep Samberg off of TV. While he's probably a good comedy writer in sketch-lengthed sprints, he's insufferably smug and unfunny as a performer. He's nearly as hammy and obnoxious as Jimmy Fallon was.
While the whining about the writing or overall sketch quality's been a constant since the show's second season, I have to say that after viewing loads of the older show (thanks Netflix Watch Instantly!), that while there were plenty of clunker sketches and recurring segments, the writing was much more intelligent and witty.
But nothing sells beer and does promotion for guest hosts and musicians (all of whom have a movie out, a new album, respectively) like puerile belly-laughs.
