Why not make the uniform in stripes of bright florescent orange and white, with big black letters "BUM" embrazoned on both front and back? That will increase the visibility and helps tourists and shoppers avoid these beggars.

Honestly, Street Roots can lay off editorial staff, contract with some mainstream newspapers of actual value, such as The Wall Street Journal, Daily Journal of Commerce, Portland Business Journal, and USA Today, and clean up them "vendors" (no more unkempt looks, clean-shaven required) and put them on the street so more people will buy. Even if per-copy take for the vendor is smaller, they will do better in sales volumes. Why would anyone bother to pay $1 on an 8-page substandard paper full of rants against the middle class and business people?
@Portlandistan: "embrazoned," eh? That's a wonderfully SarahPalinesque error. (I won't call it just "Palinesque" out of respect for one of my heroes, Michael Palin.)
Im excited for the handful at various new seasons that are super awesome. I guess that's mean to the few that aren't included in my list of awesome... but who's to know?! Anyhow, I think they'll dig it.
