Glad he's out, but I can't help but think about the safety (or not) of his seat. He was preceded by a Democrat, but the 1998 election between him and his Republican opponent was pretty close. It'll be interesting to see if the First District will actually stay blue. Here's hoping Wu hasn't sullied the party's brand too much there.
The final scandal that brought Wu down is actually bad news for Republicans. Their only hope of take his seat was if Wu had run for reelection in 2112, and his opponents in the primary had split the vote.
@dmitrir: the Republicans have a pretty good chance of taking the seat in 2112. Their candidate could probably get the endorsement of the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, as long as he or she kept his or her copy of Atlas Shrugged well hidden.
@Graham - One of the limiting factors here is that candidates have to actually live in the district. Jefferson Smith lives in the district he represents statewide, East Portland, so he's out.
Damn, Oregometry is right. You only have to be a resident of the state if you're a congressional representative. State reps and senators, on the other hand, do have to live in their district. #TheMoreYouKnow
I don't know Witt, but Bonamici or Avakian would both be great replacements.
@G I would vote for a furry rapist (although, not a rapie-looking furry), but I'm just kool like that
