In my memory The Stand has the dubious honor of being one of the few books that I've ever put down without finishing. When I was in middle school I liked 'Salem's Lot and The Eyes of the Dragon well enough, but over three hundred pages into The Stand I got sick of the simplistic manichaen worldview and general slowness.
I keep telling myself I'll come back to King as an adult, and give him another shot. Young me really hated that book. Maybe adult me would find something to like.
I think the Dark Tower series would be a much better target for these guys. Lots more magic and creatures in that one. It'd be a better fit for them, and might translate to the screen better.
Before the mostly terrible ensemble cast comes in and craps all over most of the film.
