If blacks are disproportionately victims of illegal gun violence, which is likely gang related, it stands to reason the perpetrators are likewise black. We can argue all day about the cause of inner-city poverty and violence, and I'm as much of a bleeding hearted socialist on inner-city issues as anyone, but we can't pretend there isn't a racial element to gun violence in the city. We're not talking about farmers with sawed off shotguns and tea partiers stocking up on weapons for the coming revolution, we're talking about curbing gang violence. Arrest records will paint a disheartening racial profile, but it doesn't mean discrimination and profiling are the reason for it. Sometimes there are just ugly social truths. Or is Sam Adams a racist?
