hey sarah, kind of a dick move to publish someones gmail address on the mercury website. Given the address that is clearly THE Sattie Clark of the awesome band 17 reasons why, and I am betting that she doesn't really want that gmail address spread all over the place. Maybe you should make an edit to the .pdf before publishing it out. Max's mom is kind of a douche for not doing it herself. Also if he wants to seem viable and not like a little kid then maybe having his mom run his campaign is his first mistake.
Bud and Mom need to find hobbies. Why don't we get little Max some stanky on his hang-down first, then he can move on to bigger things like running a mid-major city.
so Jake Oken-Berg got taken seriously but Max isn't? i've met him, he's come to a few community events i've been at, and he's more serious than a lot of people who run.
a good reason to include him is that those at this event can meet him & decide for themselves, not if he's "viable" but if he's the kind of person who'll be helping Portland's future. they may even want to contribute to his campaign to encourage him & others to step up. he's running a decent campaign, given he doesn't have $150K & the rest of the connections.
He is 19, doesn't interview well, and wears an ironic American flag leather coat. His parents ought to be ashamed of themselves for encouraging this sort of empty resume-building. Max is just a kid, but the adults who support him are cynical assholes who certainly know that it's only ok to do so because he doesn't have a chance in hell. They would shit like the rest of us if he actually got elected. Stop being dicks.
If I'm having a party to, I dunno, celebrate local musicians, I'm not going to invite the fucking kid that just bought himself a banjo and put some shit up on MySpace.
It just doesn't fit the spirit of the event, no matter how earnest he is.
I don't think Jake Oken-Berg was taken that seriously. He got a lot of votes from people that hated Vera Katz and a lot from people who knew Vera Katz was going to be reelected in a landslide no matter who they voted for. Still you're right he should probably be given a chance just like the other candidates...even if his mom is running his campaign.
This is Portland people!! Known across the country for being weird, funky and one of a kind for our unique ability to embrace differences in our culture and political views. Bud Clark and his raincoat! Kitzhaber and his jeans and cowboy boots! The list could go on but I think you catch my drift. Max has good ideas and intentions centered around some of Portland's key issues. Our current mayor has so many shortfalls virtually anyone could perform a better job at the helm. I will remain in the corner of change and Portland's unique desire to embrace it!
THAT IS 100% OF THE REASON TO NOT INVITE HIM TO THIS HIPPY ASS FORUM.

give him some respect. he's earning it.
