Is this a TRUE protest, or another lib-hijack for media attention? You can't have a protest without demands - a few thoughts:
1) Wipe out all student debt! Erase it, it's all owned by the Gov now anyway, so why should students have to pay taxes to cover it and then pay back the original loan as well?

2) End foreclosures - let the benefactors who made a fortune shorting against the CDOs reimburse the system; give the homeowners a re-fi at current rates with No Second, No Balloon

3) Criminal indictments against the trader CEOs - they ran up the debt, so they should pay it off

It's not enough to walk around banging noisemakers - DEMAND CHANGE!!

Cannot wait to see how Portland does the Occupy Wall Street solidarity event. Are we as progressive as we say we are? Do we give a damn? I went to the "Know Your Rights" training today, and only 60 or so folks were there, but looked from the video to have been at least a few hundred at the 2nd General Assembly meeting. Hopefully we can foment real change as happened With the Arab Spring. It's not overstating the case to say we've got a similarly corrupted politics favoring the few at the expense of the 99%.

Newly unemployed as of three weeks ago. No work available, certainly for months, perhaps for years. what else do I have to do? Let's let the parasite class know that we're not dumbshit suckers and that we've had enough.

Silver Sister, I'm relatively certain there will be a lot of goodhearted people that would lend a helping hand. if you need assistance with mobility or worry about it being too rough. I'd recommend joining the Facebook group and putting a question out there. Everyone's been really willing to help that I've run into, and we'd love to see you!

The problem that our nation United States today is an economic dictatorship. It violates articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 25. Is to form a new political group to restore democracy and the rule of law. Today we live American nightmare

Article 25.

Peter Vom Tal- America embodies the freedom *to* protest, redefine/go for self, move and live independently. Europe freedom is freedom *from* worry about unemployment, healthcare, care in old age (guaranteed high-life/high expense care for elderly). This was put by Rick Steves (while not exactly a counterculture pundit) well in a recent audio documentary. And both systems are breaking economically. Not sure generalizations from Universal Declarations help that much.

How to respond? "Wall street", oil barons, real estate dealers, financiers... these are all easy targets for criticism, but they can dish overgeneralized, stereotypical attacks right back. Like Mary said, and delineated specifically, above-- respond with substance. US home mortgages are a decades-old profiteering racket, student loans assume an excellent job market, and health care + war costs are ludicrous. Unify positively with specifics!

Greed is in most of us, it doesn't matter if your a CEO of a bank or the president of a charity, a lawyer, a dentist, or the owner of a fast food restaruant. This democracy cannot set limits on how much wealth a person accumulates, but there should be regulation to how business is conducted effects the welfare of it's patrons contributing to the success of the financial institution. That saying "it's a win win situation" for both consumers, and providers of products,or services when each gets what they want. But really most product or service providers big and small, write the rules stipulated in contracts that offer less service but maximize profit, or offer a product made with cheap labor, cheap materials but priced and sold as a reliable quality product. I know, you know, WE ALL KNOW THESE THINGS ARE GOING ON ! What can we do ? Protest ! Unite in protest. Show our strength as consumers.
Have you looked at what's on the store shelves at Target, Walmart, K-Mart?
Have you paid for something, that breaks just months after you paid for it ?
Maybe we can't stop shopping there, but we can fill up their suggestion boxes requesting that they sell true quality products, possibly made in America.
Remember BP oil and the gulf ? We can't take on all of these companies but we can pick on one of them. Stop buying BP products. When these giants see what a united front can do, change will come. Have you heard from Bank of America recently ?
There's one good cause we can all benifit from, let's start here in Oregon.
Have law makers pass a bill, that makes all medical professions, doctor's
dentists, accept all insurances, even Oregon Health Care plans. Have employers contribute to the Oregon health care system for their employees who are covered by this plan just like they contribute to the private insurance companies. Let's not be greedy, let's help other's as well as ourselves. Help make and pass a law that requires doctors and dentists who receive a liscence to practice, open a business and profit; to accept everyone and their insurance whatever that might be. Here's your chance, no matter what your crusade might be; protest with Occupy Portland. Have you you been downtown lately. I have. Come on speak now before it's to late.

Please wait...
