I WONDER HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE FOR DAMOSA TO GET ARRESTED FOR PUNCHING A WINDOW?!?
2
WHY WOULD DAMOSA PUNCH A WIDOW? THEY PROBABLY HAVE KIDS TO FEED!

Good luck you guys. And please stay safe. I'm sure you have press credentials and all that jazz. But still! I'll still be fussing about like a worried hen. Thanks for bringing the news.
3
During the last time Bush the Younger came to town, I was in the middle of all of it, wearing a suit and taking pictures. They didn't tear gas me/beat me at all.

I wish the same could be said for the anchor for channel 12, who did indeed get sprayed, and as a consequence was the only local media figure who had anything other than the usual to say about the whole thing...
4
1,000 people already is pretty impressive.
5
Oh, at @Fruit Cup - because that's just what he does.
6
People in my office are all fretting about whether they will be able to get home to Beaverton at quitting time what with the "planned riot" going on. They are imagining that protesters will be invading the MAX and starting fisticuffs. I am laughing. I know it just started, but so far it sounds like the thing is just a bunch of awkward milling about.
7
Watching it from the safety of my cubicle: http://occupypdx.org/portland-livestream/
8
It is a Guy Fawkes mask. Don't be ignorant.
9
This might get kind of exciting afterall. Fight the power, amigos!
10
Alex, if it gets outta hand, remember elbows and knees.
11
I'd say a little over a thousand here now. A LOT of older folks, which is good, I was afraid it might be dominated by punk/hippie/anarchist kids.
12
It is freakin' beautiful that you have to sit through an ad for Walmart before you can watch that video stream.
13
I thought Guy Fawkes masks (aka V for Vendetta masks) were no longer protest chic. You know with the whole Time Warner (aka a giant, soulless corporation) profiting from the sales of those masks.

Oh well, it's the thought that counts.
14
45 minutes since the last update. What's going on down there? Either you got shot by police or you're on AT&T.
15
I think the V for Vendetta story is more directly applicable to this type of protest than other protests. The Alan Moore book, I mean. I don't remember the movie.
16
Went down there and I found myself sizing up the female protesters. Only ~5% were "I'd do her" material.
17
It looks like there is a nice temporary holding pen set up at Pioneer Square.
18
I guess i'm not getting a cheesestake at the square today :(
19
Our building was alerted by a security guy who called it an anti-war protest. Duhhhhhhhhh
20
Wow. How amped up are those Salem cops going to be? All nervous about being in the Big City. Heads filled with stories of our dangerous anarchists and gang members.
21
Drum circle! Sweet! Hope you get a pic.
22
Drum circle? This protest has lost all credibility.
23
We are discussing here at the bar am at if dogs have souls and therefore if the Cops Dogs have souls or not. We just bifurcated from the main theme after we all agreed that money doesnt grow on threes and only working hard and being smart those bills come in. Let the ones who know eat shit. Stick up those pretty banners and signs to The Man!
24
this protest had credibility?
25
Did you guys just retract your update about the drum circle? It looks like it disappeared.
26
How about an update "live" bloggers?
27
Is there a dude selling veggie burritos?
28
What is the crowd like now, at 2:20p? Is the march for 2:30p, or will it be later?
Thanks, S
29
There might be a burritos selling point, but I doubt It cuz theyre asking for green cards and waivers and stuff in the beans stands. But I heard two soccer moms saying this was the biggest crowd theyve been in months. Somebody please invite them to burning man.
30
If someone shows up selling veggie burritos and crystals this is totally over.
31
does anybody want to get me a sandwich to
#occupymystomach
plz
32
There are a lot of helicopters around. Sounds like Apocalyse Now out there.
33
...uh, we don't live in a Democracy, we live in a Republic. And that's a good thing, but I get what they are trying to say.
34
"Many, many more?" There are only eight pictures in your Flickr pool.
35
Soon to come! It's a general admonition to keep looking later, as we add "many, many more."
36
Well, consider me generally admonished!
37
Blocking transportation, especially public transportation, is fucking lame.
Get with it folks.
38
I was interested in what the cutoff for "the top 1%" actually was, and couldn't find recent information anywhere online. I found the census report from 2010 that listed personal income distributions for men and women separately, and combined them myself.

In 2010, the top 1% of wage earners in the US earned $200,000 per year. People making above $100,000 per year formed the top 5.7%.

"We Are 99%" is a great slogan, but I wonder if it's really accurate?
39
Hey, it happens during Blazers games when I want to take a Red to 39th (or go anywhere from Rose Quarter). Same shit.

And of course my mother saw this on the news in Seattle and called to make sure I was okay.
40
Sorry, young anarchist, but you belong to the collective now.
41
@REYMONT: STATISTACLLY SPEAKING, THE ODDS ARE MUCH MORE IN FAVOR OF ANYONE BEING IN THE 99%. YOU KNOW HOW MATH WORKS.
42
@Graham - Not sure I understood your last post? I just wonder how many people who make $199,000 a year support this movement. Or if the people in Guy Fawkes masks would welcome someone who makes $199,000 a year as a fellow comrade who's also being trodden on by greedy rich people.
43
Yeah, it should be "we are the 94.3%". Maybe less.
Has DamosA been arrested yet?
45
Damn, where is the 'slutwalk' chicks when you need 'em.
46
I don't know. I'm still surprised corporations haven't started schilling their businesses with an occupy hash tag. I just keep thinking of Chile's, Burger King and Taco Bell tweeting about occupying a taco, or the like.

. . .

So, with CNN, Portland has made the national news?
47
No reports (so far) of breaking windows or throwing shit at cops? That's good.
I know I'm bogged down with homework, looks like the "anarchists" are too??
48
that's the point. the police are part of the 99%.
49
Occupy Portland twitter trolls are hilarious.
50
@REYMONT: 99% IS A SLOGAN, NOT A RULE. I ALSO THINK THAT SPLITTING HAIRS ON THE RESULTS OF ANY ONE PERSONS 1040 IS CREATING A FALSE DICHOTOMY THAT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER FOR SHIT. I BET THAT IF GREG ODEN OR PHIL KNIGHT JOINED THE PROTEST, THEY'D BE WELCOMED.
51
Gosh, Graham, it's not like you to dismiss facts in favor of generalizations. Oh, wait....

I think it's worth pointing out that they probably don't speak for as many people as they claim they do.
52
"People have been hugging the cops. It's been this very joyous, strange situation." > "Roger, I told ya that placing that "chlorocide" in our water 3 months prior to the event would benefit our cause..."
53
@REYMONT: I'M DONT THINK I'M GETTING WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO SAY. THE MATH IS PRETTY SIMPLE, THE ODDS ARE STACKED THAT ANY RANDOM PERSON IS GOING TO BE IN THE 95% OR 99% (REGARDLESS OF WHAT FRACTIONAL NUMBERS YOU WANT TO USE). SO I'D SAY, YES THE GROUP IS SUPPOSEDLY REPRESENTING AS MANY PEOPLE AS THEY CLAIM.
54
Just got home a little bit ago; I was TOTALLY STUCK RIGHT NEXT TO THAT SAGE-BURNER (actually there were multiple but whatever, I had to deal with one IN MY FACE, at least it smelled like hamburgers but)

Yeah, amazing, amazing experience. I would say 5000 sounds like an accurate number. 3000 at the least, probably somewhere between the two.

As for the police, I tried to avoid them because I didn't know what to expect, but I knew that it wasn't bad when the firetruck was (in a supportive way) honking at us. That's when I realized that they were doing their best to help us out.
55
I'm thinking to go down in suit and tie with a briefcase as THE MAN. Maybe make up a Gordon Gecko sign "GREED IS GOOD".
A first thursday performance piece.
56
When the march ended in the park the crowd estimate was at 10,000. I have a feeling it's less than 1,000 since it started raining... Anarchist friends of mine were being cynical and yelling at people, but running away when people yelled back, pretty annoying.
I was genuinely worried about the welfare of the crowd when I learned the march was not permitted, there were lots of children and elderly people at the waterfront before the march. But everything went really well! Awesome news that the people will be allowed to camp out tonight!
58
They were a sorry looking bunch of a few hundred at most when I found them at 6pm. Mostly comprised of the usual suspects: "anarchists," the professional activist types, and Ron Paul fanatics (is there a party they won't crash?). I left when a lady got on the bullhorn and started ranting about organic gardening. Focus, people. It would've been nice if more working people could have been involved.
59
@ovidus That was exactly my impression too. Usual suspects.
60
@58 Ovidious: I did see some ILWU signs from earlier photos, does that count? Had to work all day but I was there in spirit. FUCK YOU HOURLY WAGE CONTRACT JOBS!!!!!
61
@Solidarity: So people should quit their jobs to protest that, uh, they can't get a job? While it sounds noble to quit a crappy low paying contract job to fight for better working conditions, it isn't practical for everyone.

All your attitude does is turn off the very people (eg mainstream folks) you are trying to bring into the movement. Without them, this whole movement is doomed to fail and just be a bunch of stereotypes in a barrel for the Fox News crowd.
62
@61, I don't think this protest is only about unemployment, or even primarily about it. And I think solidarity's point was simply that he had to be at work when he would have liked to show his support. I wanted to be there too, but it's a Thursday.

For what it's worth solidarity, I did see a handful of SEIU there.
63
I'm glad the protest has remained peaceful and positive up to this point. But unlike other nations who have experienced civil unrest this past year, ours is not a protest out necessity, by people who have nothing else to lose...yet.

As US, China, and the Euro zone hurl ever closer to a total, synchronous collapse, things are going to get real.

Bankrupt, thoroughly bankster conquered Greece has just bought 400 tanks from the US instead of feeding its own people. Those tanks are for use against the Greek people as finish breaking down. This is where we are all heading.

i was there for many, many reasons. But the biggest one? My son was born with a congenital heart defect. Fortunately ( ? ) i have always been poor enough for him to be covered by state health insurance. 5 openheart surgeries & a hospital fuck-up that left him with a pacemaker at 14, & a random beating in NoPo that knocked his teeth in & left him permanently disfigured 1 month before he was due to lose his health insurance ( i posted an IA about it). He is now 19 & has no health insurance. He cannot see his cardiologist, cannot have the battery in his pacemaker changed ( without which, his heart will stop beating ), & cannot see a dentist to finish fixing his teeth, or even get the anti-biotics he needs to see a dentist. Without health insurance, my son will die. This protest has been criticized for not having a clear & direct message. What i see is that there are many messages & all of them are valid. And, for many of us, this really is life or death. Please, people, stop criticizing those who are genuinely suffering & who have resorted to the last option available. Show some support, if not in person, at least on here.
65
THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THIS PROTEST ON A SUNNY SATURDAY IN AUGUST. I MIGHT HAVE SHOWN UP IN THAT CASE. BUT DURING THE MIDDLE OF BUSINESS HOURS?!? POPPA'S GOTTA GO MAKE THEM DONUTS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwfrBbNo5Jg (WHY IS FAT HITLER MAKING FRIED DOUGH RINGS?!?)
66
I went there very briefly but long enough to see our own Max Brumm, looking lost and forlorn in his trademark flag jacket.
67
Darg, all apologies Solidarity. Been up too late and (completely) misread your comment as a rant against people who "were there in spirit" because they had to work, which was a common sight on Twitter. I've seen rants like it before hence my comment.

I still have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to hardcore left-wing talk as I do right wing. My left-wing aversion came about in 1996 when a couple anarchists in the environmental group I was with chastised me for liking computers.

I honored them by dropping out of the environmental group and going back to college and getting a Computer Science degree.
68
Georgia, that Carls Jr. burger was bad and you should FEEL bad.
69
Man, i must be real popular here. The very FIRST comment was dedicated to ME.
70
I was at the Bush protest during his visit in 2002 and subsequent marches against the war both before and during the fact. I'm worried that all us mellow hippie dippie types are going to get complacent. They're counting on us to blow our collective anger load, pat ourselves on the back, and go back to bong sucking and beating on drum circles.

Marching didn't stop either war, and it's not going to stop rich psychopaths from being greedy. Real mass civil disobedience and disruption is what will scare them. That's what gave India its independence and ended segregation in the South. And what with hacking- there's ALL kinds of disruption to be had- just look at how Anonymous took on Scientology. That crummy cult won't last another 10 years- but I digress.

In sum, class war is the only war worth fighting for- but there needs to be more butts in sit-ins at Banks and corporate offices, rather than just hippies on parade.
71
sleepoverPDX, urbancampingtripPDX, hugsomecopsandtakepicturewiththemPDX. all seem more appropriate than occupyPDX.
72
arrests were made due to vandalism. stupid kids.

73
I had alot more empathy for 'Occupy' untill I saw that video.
74
When you see peaceful protesters wearing scarfs over their faces like you see at violent protests or criminals on video cams breaking into stores, you know something is wrong. If you're at the protest tell those morons to stop hiding their faces like common criminals. It totally kicks the credibility of the protest in the face and dumps on the important messages people want to make.
75
@67 Humanclock:
My last admittedly vague statement mainly reflected that I am good enough to work a certain number of months for a company then be kicked out the door for a few months only to be rehired as a contractor for the same job. With no hope of ever being hired permanently.

I get no paid sick time, every hour I am not here I do not get paid, and I get offered health insurance for a prohibitive amount of money (read 3/4 of one of 2 paychecks I get a month).

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that I have a job that pays a decent wage, but I hate being forced to be unemployed.
76
Quick! Somebody get Tony Perez down there to review those muffins!
77
@LIDDY1: IF THEY'RE GOING TO COVER THEIR FACES, THEY SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE A FUNNY OR INTERESTING MASK. BANDANAS OR GUY FAWKES MASKS ARE JUST LAME.
78
Graham, can you take your caps off please? Your comments look like a bulletin from the National Weather Service.

Thanks! :)
79
@RAND: NO. I AM ACTUALLY THE VOICE OF THE NOAA. TODAY I PREDICT A 50% CHANCE OF RAIN AND OVERCASTNESS. THIS PREDICTION WILL HOLD UNTIL SOMETIME IN JUNE.

Some shots from yesterday.

It's real telling and typical to see how the marjority of comments here are range from dismissive to out-right insulting and personal attacks. I guess the folks who have NOTHING better to do, NOTHING positive to add or say are still firmly in the grip of the control apparatus.

It's relieving to see at least afew smart folks making sincere, INTELLIGENT points. But at damn near 80 comments [so far], close to half of this "discussion" can be attributed to 3 or 4 people.
82
@Damos - Continue to think that your problems are other people's fault and you'll never fix them. But you do get to keep wallowing in that sweet, sweet feeling of victimization, so there's that.

In other news, PCC is supposed to start their big 50th anniversary party at Pioneer Square in less than an hour, and Senator Jeff Merkley is supposed to be there. I wonder if that's known, in the Occupy camp? Would they care? Seems like he might be a target for protest, or conversation, or at least a sound bite or something.
83
I'm glad to see all the trolls are struggling so hard to find a reason to hate on the protest, and even more glad to see the protest be as effective and peaceful as it has been so far. Like others, I can't quit my job to attend, but I'm there in spirit and I definitely will be there this evening/weekend.
84
@MERC NEWS TEAM: PLEASE STICK WITH THIS MISSING BACKPACK STORY! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE! WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY DO WE LIVE IN WHERE PEOPLE LOSE THEIR BACKPACKS?!?!?
85
@Damos, I personally always imagine you in jesters motley.
86
I should clarify to say that you typically say whatever you want, but not many seem to take you seriously.
87
LOL libtards
88
Wow, that's some highbrow namecalling. OregonLive is over there --->
89
"@Damos - Continue to think that your problems are other people's fault and you'll never fix them. But you do get to keep wallowing in that sweet, sweet feeling of victimization, so there's that."

You know reymont, i could've set a watch to the EXACT predicability that one of the 3-4 people i was refering to would immediately follow my comment, even though i purposefully didn't call out anyone by name. Which kinda proves my point.

Anyways, i'll be dt again tonight, b/c i actually give a damn about something. Have fun being here all day/night, race-baiting, trolling, stalking, and just generally being un-useful. Perhaps we'll chat tomorrow.

What about this?

Re: Entry of 10:25 pm; "Jewing people out of lunches, Jewing people out of breaks."
Typical anti-semitic horseshit spewed by the leftist crowd of Portland.

How would the Merc Staff and readers respond if they heard someone say: "The bankers are as bad of thieves as niggers." Collectively, they would shit theirs pants.

And notice, in this article, and 91 comments posted - not one fucking word in reproach.

Racism, in any form, is utterly disgusting. Silence is collusion folks.
93
What the fuck are you taking about, 'unregistered comment'? Just shut up, already. You apparently haven't been down there, so you don't know SHIT!
94
Look, shit-for-brains, the anti-semitic comments were reported in this article. For as much sniveling as you do about blacks getting a raw deal in this society, you can't say a fucking thing bad about people at Occupy Portland badrapping Jews?

Pretty selective outrage you have there tinkerbell.
95
This article is showing good representation regarding software overviews. But do you know every steps of developing should be taken carefully by us. We are introducing eCommerce platforms Magento, prestashop and others. It allows users to enable their customers to access their eCommerce sites on mobile platforms. With Magento there is an obvious solution - Multi-Store. This is where you split your inventory up into two or more stores, all being run from a single Magento instance.

Please wait...
