DID DAMOSA CATCH VITILIGO?
2
Ha ha how funny that this man's mental health and brain chemistry imbalance caused by a variety of factors and genetic circumstances (and no doubt the appropriate or inappropriate heavy meds he has been on in the hospitalization leading up to this hearing) has led to him being upside down by a police car! What a hilarious laught riot.

You guys are fucking dicks for posting this.

This is a man who was committed to a hospital for six months in the minutes before the photo was taken because of his mental illness and his danger to himself or others or his inability to care for himself to the point that he might die. It's a disabililty. He sure as shit doesn't have any control over it and I suspect that if given the option and the clarity to understand what you have done, he would be horribly embarrassed and traumatized by your attempt to get some cheap laughs over his utter loss of control.

The sheriff's deputies are doing their job and trying to protect him and themselves and take him to a hospital because a court thinks that he is such a sad case he needs to be hospitalized for his own protection.

Maybe you should post some 'funny' pictures of people who have fallen out of their wheelchairs or women crying during their miscarriage or some animated gifs of a child having a seizure you sick bastards.

I like the typical Blogtown snark as much as anyone but you need to take this post down immediately. It is voyeuristic and not newsworthy in the way you present it and it is a fucking cheap and sad joke.

I'M SORRY THAT IT'S A YOUTUBE VIDEO AND NOT AN ANIMATED GIF. CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?

I <3 you, Graham.

COTW!
5
Graham, I can forgive you because you are obviously mentally ill and developmentally disabled. Sara Mirk, on the other hand, should know better.
6
#6: agreed.
7
I sent it to my old pal who is a cop.
That get a kick out of these too.

I'm a photographer, journalist type. I sent a couple of this to the Mercury (Sarah found another and didn't use mine). My intent was not to glorify. I was actually wanting to know the backstory, which I couldn't really get on the street. Sarah found out. I wouldn't have put that headline on it. I'm glad I know how it happened, and it makes me feel sad for the guy, and all the other mentally ill people out there who have to suffer. Our system need to be better than this.

@Number 6 - My intention with this was not to be funny or to be a dick, but to explain what was happening in this photo that's been circulating around the internet and to get the backstory on an incident a lot of people witnessed yesterday.

Clearly it's a sad and strange incident—the only thing I find funny about it is the deputy whose expression is so nonchalant when faced with this extraordinary scene.

The headline is pretty glib. If this came off as trying to make fun of the guy, then I apologize and I should have taken more care with it.

Paul, I appreicate your role as a photographer and it sounds like you were able to get some interesting shots on the fly in the midst of an eye catching situation. But not every shot or situation needs to be published. I suspect the Mercury isn't going to publish a photo of a suicide attempt off a bridge, yet somehow they feel comfortable making fun of the 'antics' and self harm attempts of a severely mentally ill person.

The story was covered in the Oregonian [ http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.s… ] and it turns out Sarah Mirk got it wrong on the facts (guy was already committed to the state hospital) as well as getting it wrong with the tone of her article.

You know you're a shit news blog when you can't even crib the main facts of of a crappy throw away Oregonian article.
11
Yeah, the headline *is* glib, Sarah, and using "crazy" and "hilariously" isn't great either when the guy is almost certainly mentally ill and could've split his head open. Well, at least you gave our resident humanitarian commenters a chance to chime in.
12
I read about him in the O before seeing this picture.
I hope he gets all the help he needs,
but the picture is still fucking hilarious.
13
I guess both Grahm and Frankieb have some weird love-affair/obssession with me now.

So let's see if i've gotten this right: deranged WHITE guy assaults sheriff's dep., damages patrol car, attemps to flee, is sedated taken to hospital for treatment UNHARMED.

Aaron Campbell - BLACK guy - poses ZERO danger to anyone, attempts to surrender to cops, walks out of apt. backwards/unarmed/hands clearly visible - is shot w/ beanbag rounds, shoot in back with AR-15, attacked by K-9 dog, left to bleed to death for over 30 minutes, INTENTIONALLY denied any medical treatment, corpse hand-cuffed/further humiliated, not removed until two days later during autopsy (just to make sure that "nigger" was truly dead, huh).

Yep... i see now.

To be honest, the picture -- without context -- is amusing.

How close was event to another James Chasse?

It's so sad that the cops are our only "solution" for dealing with mentally ill persons having violent or psychotic episodes. I wish there was another public group that was specifically trained to deal with suicidal people, mentally ill, disturbed, etc -- not treating them as criminals (depending on the situation, of course) but as a possible stop-gap before police are called in.

It's just depressing.
15
DamosA, you can't use the 'n word', you racist.
16
He did NOT head butt the window. He kicked it out please fix that headline before you create another Terri Schiavo.

Smirk didn't your mom always tell you to lift with you knees .
17
@DAMOSA: U JELLLY BRO? WHITE PRIVILEGE IS WICKED RAD!

I'm forwarding this entire list of comments to the Skanner. And to Alex's grandma for good measure.

"How close was event to another James Chasse?"

Well considering James Chasse was literally chased down like a scared dog, kicked, beaten, punched, and stomped within inches of his life, CRIMINALLY denied medical treatment, and left to slowly suffocate to death in the back of a patrol car - i'd say this event was not close at all.

And it's also funny how the White racists here have made even THIS into a race issue.

Please wait...
