That IS a pretty sweet arch.
2
No comment regarding the lack of a Chik-Fil-A, eh Mayor? Why the cover up?
3
their downtown is very quaint, in almost a good way, and the river is pretty, but it is still more of a truck stop than a town.
4
"Private" tour, eh? Why do I get the feeling that's going to end with a certain young mayor having his gray slacks at his ankles, standing there in his undershorts going, "What?"

Make sure you check out Taste of Village for some Thai food. I've never eaten there, but oh that name.
5
That arch seems to need a lot of upkeep. I'm not impressed.
6
Joneser, I guess that makes you an arch-nemesis?
7
>> "largest brownfield clean-up site in Oregon ("And it cost — are you sitting down?" says Kight. "213 million dollars to clean up!"'

i wonder what company got that $213 MILLION contract...i wonder why the company that created the toxic waste field (aka 'brownfield') isn't paying? i wonder why...
8
And the outlet mall!

Other fact about Troutdale: after the swearing-in ceremony, each new mayor of Troutdale is required to have both the Arch and "Gateway to the Gorge" tattooed on their lower back.

@ C&B, well played
10
@rich bachelor. Are you implying that Mr. Kight is going to try and FUCK our dear Ms. Zielinski? Or are you merely suggesting that Troutdale, fiscally, tighten their belt?
11
WAIT... TROUTDALE IS A REAL PLACE? I THOUGHT THAT THE MERCRUY JUST MADE IT UP OUT OF WHOLE CLOTH. WELL, I'LL BE DARNED.
12
Time for a Blogtown poll to determine whether the next meetup is at the Old Gold or in Troutdale?
13
Does the Mayor Kight get his hair cut/styled in Troutdale? Cause if so, my hair cuttin' budget will be transferred to his fiefdom.
14
I think the arch should read
"Troutdale: Not Much Farther
To Rooster Rock."
But nobody asked me.
15
Joneser, I think the picture of the arch was taken while it was being put in place. Not being seen to by maintenance people.
16
Or was your remark made TIC?
17
@Graham I'm still not convinced it's a real place. I'm pretty sure it's like one of those fake towns at EPCOT.
18
M. Asterisk: the fucking part, but I like your interpretation too.

Our beloved mayor forgot to mention that the arch came in just slightly over budget. Original budget in the $70.000 range and final numbers, in excess of $250000.

Interesting too that he did not mention the fight he has ongoing with his own council and the illegal building he has on his property.

Troutdale is real, and IS a nice place to live, just needs new staff that can actually build a budget that is real, and a mayor that follows the rules he expects others to follow.

Portland used to have a series of awesome lit-up arches in what is now called Old Town, but we got rid of them.
