Pauline Kael was more eccentric than astute as a critic. Whenever I read a good piece of analysis that she had written, I remember than even a broken clock is right twice a day.

A critics comeuppance? Beware Merc critics!
Let's not forget that she is held in high esteem by many other notable critics, including Ebert, for her insights.
And just maybe, just maybe, the author spices history up a bit to sell his book.

This was surprisingly well written, and it may be the first time I've ever had to reach for the e-dictionary on Blogtown ("amanuensis").

Kael may have been a monster,but she was the most brilliant critic this country has ever produced.The fact she had a hand in the casting,writing and editing of some of the films she reviewed is even more rermarkable.
