Hopefully folks from the camps show up to protest this attempt at recuperation. We want no part of your meetings with government officials and the media. Reformist attempts to co-opt this movement and tame it should be rejected at every opportunity, including this one.
2
That would be a shame- this sounds constructive.
3
@Occupier, I disagree.
4
Thank god, maybe there's hope.

Seriously "Occupier," do you think you represent the 99%?

You're the same Adornoist fringe that's been a deadweight on the Left since the late 60's. You're a cancer, and the way you people mismanaged the "Occupy" movement has made this obvious.

Fuck your "revolution," moron. We're taking our country back and you irrational freaks should make our job easier and go die in a fire.
5
Is that little retard Jefferson Davis Smith going to be there or is he going to chicken out or tone it down because of the election?
6
I'm sure there won't be any houseless folk, people of color, or actual activists there, so don't worry about it. . . .
7
Gee, is 'activist' a full-time profession now?
8
Is there anywhere convenient to park nearby (besides street parking)? Or should I just catch a ride with Andy from B-town?
9
@Occupier— You don't own the Occupy movement any more than we do. Unless Steve Jobs himself shows up, everyone who attends this discussion will be part of the 99%. It aims to be an inclusive conversation, so instead of shouting at us, come talk with us! And save your anger for a real enemy who's worth the fight.

(That goes for everyone else, too! Come out and participate! See you there.)

@Super Chundy— there's a Smart Park one block away on 9th and Stark. Glad you're coming!
10
Save 1% of the pie for me.
11
so lame
12
If I come at all Sarah, it will be to throw a pie in your face. Fuck off. There are many enemies of the poor and working class, the Mercury among them. Are the homeless invited to this little party of yours? For that matter, have even invited any members of Occupy Portland? Seems to me that you're leaving out the most important voices. Of course, the important voices as far as you're concerned belong to professional activists, government officials and the media. Stick to what you do best - detached hipster irony.
13
@12: It's gonna be really embarrassing if you have an apoplectic stroke over a pie party.
14
This is what's going to happen:

15
Man, I can only hope the overwhelming majority of 'occupy' isn't a complete idiotic dickhead like 'occupier' here has shown himself to be.
It seems to me everyone is invited moron.
16
@ GLV, Yech, I hope you're not right, but that really does seem kinda likely.

Also, does anyone else get several closeups of boobs on their SLOG sidebars? It's distracting and awesome.
17
@4...yes, pretty much the 1% of the 99%. They just want face time, attention and confrontation for purpose of self agrandizement or justification. Sad really
18
Did anybody even bother to read this line?

"Panelists from Occupy, local advocacy groups, city government, media, and Senator Merkley's office..."

So, yes, in a discussion about Occupy, two of the facilitators—shocking!—will be from Occupy. So instead of throwing a pie at someone, how about you hand it to me so I can eat it. Because pie is a terrible thing to waste.
19
Maybe said 'occupier' has a hard time with reading comprehension. He doesn't sound too bright anyway.
This isn't a great sign of this movement.
Then again Denis, since you work for the Merc, you are obviously an enemy to the poor and working class.
The Merc *IS* the 1% !
Maybe he wants to protest at the Merc door next?
20
I’ll lick pie off of Denis’ face. Just sayin.
21
Denis, looking at your avatar, don't you find out tomorrow how much jail time you doing for being convicted of 18 counts of corruption related to the attempt to curry President Obama’s former US Senate seat for favors?
22
Actually, I must have skipped over that line. Makes little difference though. The question about the homeless still remains. And as you've reported Dennis, not everyone at Occupy is on the same page. There are traitors, snitches, and various liberal opportunists willing to throw those deemed a political liability under the bus. They don't represent me or most of the people who have been on the front lines of this movement. We'll be there to represent ourselves. And with free pie, it seems like it would be an equal shame to use it to fatten a bunch of liberals instead of to make a point. Stooges and pies in the same room can only lead to one logical conclusion.
23
In which case you should throw pie on your own face, obviously.
But you know I hear Denis passes info on 'occupy' directly to Chief Reese for a tidy little sum every time.
Deepthroat kinda stuff.
24
@Occupier: I'll be one of the evil forces representing the media--I'm a political cartoonist that works for myself and to the left of most Occupy protesters I've met in Portland, so no stooge here. Isn't it crazy how establishment groups and politicians probably want to roll Occupy into some effort to re-elect Democrats? It makes my blood boil! Why, it's almost like you could show up and politely disagree with them about it.
25
Who's co-opting who, Occupier?

Obviously the corrupt Democrats and Unions will try to co-opt the Occupy movement, but you and "people like you" have already been co-opting it, too.

Let me tell you why you and "people like you" have been on your precious front lines: you never had any pretension of creating a broad-based movement. You never cared about creating an effective movement. Instead you and the rest of the "activist" fringe focused on just sitting there, occasionally having a march in support of something almost totally unrelated to inequality, like foreign policy or the keystone pipeline or some other bullshit.

You made the entire movement about illegally camping in a city park in the middle of winter. You made the focus on ridiculous and endless "process" rather than having an impact, for stupid ideological reasons. This is the Occupy movement systematically driving away the people they claim to represent. This is the Occupy movement getting hijacked by the activist fringe.

Here's a news flash. The only reason you warts are getting the spotlight now is because the middle-class liberal douchebag sellouts snitch opportunist whatevers you despise are finally waking up to the need to end the corporate oligarchy. If it weren't for these people you loathe so much, you'd be sitting in the corner diddling yourself with your fucking Marcuse and Foucault and Chomsky imagining a nonsense rejectionist Utopia which only stoops to concrete suggestions in order to be wrong, staging the same poorly-attended and totally ignored protests you've been staging for the past 35 years. Let's be completely fucking clear here. You didn't start shit, you were just already sitting there when everyone else showed up. And instead of having some fucking appreciation, you shit all over it. And now the grown-ups are trying to clean up after your retarded poo-flinging session, and you want to go fuck THEM up. Seriously, fuck you.

Who's hijacking who, you fucking idiot relic? Who's throwing who under the bus? Who looked at a civilization of unprecedented humanity and efficiency, and instead of trying to solve its remaining problems, committed themselves to tearing it up by the roots?

And what kind of bigot just assumes a bunch of people he's never met are going to be mean to homeless people? You really are a sick fuck.

Since the other thread has apparently died and I doubt I'll be able to make it to Occu-Pie, I'll ask here:

1) What particular action(s) or event(s) need to happen in order for Occupiers to cease camping out in public parks? I'm not talking about the larger issues that prompt marches, youtube videos, bank-centered demonstrations, and the like, mind you, just the specific action of occupying public land.

2) Barring the answer to #1, what do the Occupiers hope to accomplish by the action of occupying parks?

Thanks!

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but just wanted to remind Occupy supporters of this piece written by Sarah -

http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/BlogtownPDX/archives/2011/10/13/why-this-mornings-occupy-portland-arrests-were-good-for-occupy.

I remember thinking that she was a tool, but couldn't remember why specifically. This article sums it up. It's not only inaccurate - no one at OP was trying to indefinitely hold the street - it also parroted the Mayor's line about the closure and subsequent arrests. The issue at the time was whether or not we should capitulate to the city's threats or work to establish ourselves as an equal partner in negotiations on the use of space. According to Sarah's logic, she was probably glad that the police came and arrested the "extremists" who refused to leave the parks on the 13th when the city shutdown the camps. You know, because acutal resistance is just a distraction from the more important of holding pie parties and registering people to vote. As one of the people arrested on Main Street, I sincerely hope that you receive your just desserts on the 11th. Revenge has never been so sweet!
28
Occupier are you a mole from the conservative movement? Because that's what you sound like to me. This movement is big enough for a lot of faces. And speaking of faces if any pie gets thrown in anyone's face that doesn't make ME laugh you'd better hope I'm not between you and the door.
29
way to go you stupid white libtards

Please wait...
