College is the enemy if ignorance is your running mate.

So I was watching the last debate and it dawned on me.... these are the best folks the Republican party can come up with.

Really.

In this country, ten+ years into the new millennium and the best that the one half of our two party system can do are a bunch of conspiracy nuts. The few who are not outright kooks or morons are so morally reprehensible that even an "I've had to go to God for forgiveness" statement may not be enough to appease their long term memory challenged base.

It scares the crap out of me that we are heading into some pretty rough waters here, global economy, peak oil, climate change and we don't seem to have a lot of people with vision clamoring for the presidential gig.

"Obama sucks" is not going to help us solve our problems.

I don't even know why they are wasting our time with the debates when none of these guys are electable. Right now it looks like Newt is going to be the pick to run for President and the group most excited about that choice is the Democratic party! It almost seems like this is some kind of weird game show/publicity tour so they can drive up their speaking fees and negotiate better book deals.

I just wish I had an answer for what to do? How do you get someone good to run for an office that has got to be a miserable slog of soul crushing moral compromises and Faustian bargains. I know politics is ugly and always has been but it's 2011 for gods sake! We we're supposed to have discovered alien intelligence on Jupiter by now (I'm looking at you Clarke & Kubrick). How can we still be dealing with this shit?
