This fight isn't over. I doubt it will be over in my lifetime. It's sad, but I think even if gay marriage passed on a national level, the mormons and catholics will spend the next 100 years trying to undo it.
Your headline is misleading; California didn't overturn Prop. 8, a federal appeals court did. Californian's voted to enact Prop. 8, which banned gay marriage, and probably would again. A more accurate header would read "Federal court overturns California gay marriage ban."
I'd like to see this as a victory, but with the current balance of the Supremes, the outlook is not all that rosy.
At some point it would be nice if minority rights weren't put to a majority vote.
