Believe me, I like to drink, but what exactly is the point of food carts selling alcohol? Is that really a necessity? Seems like something I could continue to do without.
2
I can't believe I totally agree with Randy and Sam, but I do here.

Alcohol at the carts could likely kill the entire Portland cart culture off when the OLCC decides to break up the party.
3
Well, the government insists that I buy weed from college students, so why can't a food cart sell me alcohol?

D- for comment of the week.

Giant outdoor bars in the middle of every neighborhood? What could go wrong? Portlanders can't be expected to stagger another block to the next bar. We need another outlet for arrested development right now!

BTW, can Randy Leonard utter anything that doesn't make him sound like a corrupt thug? "That's a nice food pod you got there. It would be real unfortunate if a certain city commissioner took a personal interest in shutting it down."

@Blabby - FIXED

"Small outdoor bars in the three places across all of Portland? What could go wrong? Portlanders can't be expected to stagger 4 miles to the next bar. We need another outlet for arrested development right now!"
7
Reymont, the article says that up to 10 pods would be eligible. Where in the City of Portland is the next bar 4 miles away? Glad you agree on the arrested development.
8
hey, if i want to drink at a food cart, i'll do it the old fashioned way; drinking wine out of a mason jar, thankyouverymuch

@5and 6...Yes they can! It's called First Thursday playa!

Right now the breweries can serve beer in a food cart pod (as is done by Captured by Porches) and at Saturday market (Rogue Brewery ). They have done so safely for over two years. How is this much different? Only one cart will sell beer at an entire pod of 18 carts. The intent is a safe and fun atmosphere in which to have a brew with your burger or dog. It is a proposal to help the food carts add to the atmosphere and help these struggling small businesses survive. Are restauranteurs threatened? Come out and see us at Cartlandia 8145 SE 82nd Ave. and get a great lunch from one of our 18 carts to support these great chefs during winter. Thanks.
