A typical symphony orchestra has about 100 or so players. When you consider that the financial barrier of entry to see a band of four or five people is generally at least five bucks, then extrapolate, then consider the economic state of Detroit, it's kind of a miracle that their symphony orchestra still exists at all. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see 'em continue and thrive, but Detroit's basic infrastructure challenges trump the state of its cultural institutions at this point.
