I have put my bangs in my mouth; this show is funny. Even Zooey D is funny in it, and hating her has been a cornerstone of my world view for the last several years.
It's okay... it's okay. Everyone has to come to their love of New Girl in their own space and time. That being said, you are always welcome in our cult, Commenty. We await your eventual arrival patiently.
I was a huge Zooey fan, but I couldn't get through the pilot episode of this show. It's a shame, because her character in Weeds is one of my all time favorites.
Seriously though, this show is so unbelievably trite and unrealistic that it just makes me want to strangle it.
I've seen parts of a few episodes and it looked to me like too much of it's in the "awkward sexual situation comedy" genre. But I should give it more of a chance.
Also, the opening title sequence makes me think of Urban Outfitters for some reason.
Ok it's not like I'm coming out as SUPER into it in a leather-chaps, being flogged in the fanny during a public parade kind of way. It's more akin to keeping in my desk drawer that Details magazine from '97 with the Ryan Phillipe photo spread.
The episode with Lizzy Caplan that directly addresses Zooey Deschanel's annoying persona was particularly smart and good. (It reminded me of that great Mike Leigh movie Happy Go Lucky, which is also about a chipper schoolteacher.)
I really don't like the New gir. But for some reason I kinda like the other new show thats exactly the same but stars elisha cuthbert. Thats probably more embarrassing to admit.
Okay. Fine. If Miss Colin and Alison enjoy it, I'll give it a second shot. It's not like I'm fancy or anything. I'm currently watching Cheers reruns... again.
Its just not funny or well written. Can someone explain Zooey to me? Incredibly eye catching but rather devoid of personality and depth...or is this just every character she plays? I have only seen 2 movies and a couple episodes of this show in terms of her body of work, so I don't want to be too critical.
It's true.

Does that make sense?
Me: "You should check out this post about New Girl and how it's OK to like it now."
Ms. Colin: "..... I know. I like it. I've been watching it on Hulu."
Me: "Like, a lot? And you haven't mentioned it deliberately?"
Ms. Colin: "Yes. I didn't need you to be shitty about it, so no, I didn't."
Me: "POOOOORRRRQUUEEEEE????!!!"
So almost all of that just happened.
