As someone who thinks video games don't get the artistic credibility they deserve, I found this very interesting. I don't know enough about surrealism to dip into that portion of the discussion, but I'm glad that the presumption that there can be no artistic value in electronic games is going away.

As much as people would like it to be, "surreal" doesn't just mean simply "strange".

I buy the argument that Mario Brothers is surreal art, but missed the part that explained why it's a masterpiece.

also, cat & beard, my initial response was to agree with you, but then i became unsure in the art historical sense of the word. it would be cool if you could elaborate.
