Jaime? Robb? Catelyn? Joffrey? I am mightily concerned that there are only 8 episodes to get through this book. Last night was a bit slow moving, in my opinion, for the amount of ground that needs to be covered.

But, you know... my complaints are truly first world problems. It's just pretty damn cool to have a new season of GOT to watch.

SPOILERS BE DAMNED. I CAN'T LOOK AT THEON GREYJOY WITHOUT GETTING REPULSED; THIS IS A TWO-FOLD PROBLEM. THERE IS HIS ABSOLUTE BETRAYAL OF THE STARKS AT WINTERFELL AND THEN HIS HORRIBLE EMASCULATION AND TRANSFORMATION INTO REEK RHYMES WITH LEEK. SERIOUSLY, FUCK THAT GUY AND SOMEONE PUT HIM OUT OF HIS MISERY.

A couple thoughts:

1) Still not in love with the Craster casting. That guy is seriously vile in the book. He's not even in the same field of scum in the HBO series as he is written in the book.

2) I wish Balon Greyjoy should be a lot more menacing. Though I think it was appropriate for Balon to more clearly state his dissapointment at what the Starks return to him (Theon is not of the Iron Isles). I can't wait to see the Damphair casting.

3) Is it just me, or are they giving Theon more depth in the HBO series? In the book, I've always read his motivations as his desire to satisfy his own ego. Here it's definitely a lot more "daddy issue" driven - I think the HBO Theon is going to have a far harder time betraying the Starks than the book Theon. The actor is appropriately vile (but kind of hot, too).

4) I'm glad they more concretely depict the Stannis/Mellisendre relationsip. To me, it's very overt in the book (you have to worship the beast with two backs to make shadow babies). But I think that'd be hard to pull off in the show. Looking forward to ep 3.

5) I don't remember Craster knocking Jon out with a rock in the book. It's been too long (this is all the justification I need to re-read the series).

Also, MORE GREYJOY SCREEN TIME PLEASE.

Ned Stark was never in any sex scenes. Good riddance to him.

@pdxMB: I'm guessing after the (relatively) concise first season, they're going to start getting a lot looser with the one-book-per-season thing from here on out. I'd be really surprised if a bunch of stuff from book two doesn't end up bleeding into season three, and vice versa.

@Fruit Cup: Theon's definitely getting a bit more depth early on here, but if I remember right, he was pretty upset by his return to the Iron Islands in the book, too. In the book I remember him being more pissy and less mopey about it, though.

Please wait...
