She knows how the game is played in the books, too. She's doing a pretty good job at fucking with Cersei.

@1 Ditto That. In fact, in terms of fuckery per page, Margaery plays the game better than anyone. Book 4 seems like one long Margaery smirk.

The reviewer may have only read through A Clash of Kings, or is only referring to ACoK since that's the basis of the current season. Margaery doesn't really step onto the board as a player until ASoS.

It's interesting that they've developed her more quickly in the show. I hope that doesn't mean that they'll do away with her grandmother's character.

The Tyrells play the game well. The impression that I've gotten (I've read through the series twice) is that Grandmommy Tyrell is the one who's actually calling all the shots. Margaery obviously plays her part, but she doesn't seem to be the main decision maker, and hasn't at all been fleshed out as a character. Also, most of the "fucking with Cersei" that she does seems to stem mostly from Cersei's own paranoia. I don't want to delve too much into book spoilers in these recaps, but Cersei eventually turns into a wino who's afraid of her own shadow. A lot of her Margaery fear is self-generated.

Last week's episode gave me a better picture of Margaery as schemer than anything implied in the books. I think that's been a theme so far with the show- taking what's heavily hinted at by Martin and just making it explicit on screen.

I might be alone in this, but to my mind the actor playing Renly is just so WRONG for the character! Perhaps he was a bit of a fool in the books but my impression was that he was very charismatic, handsome and very sure of himself. Very much unlike this HBO Renly who doesn't seem to know what he's doing or why. And don't get me started on Brienne...

Please wait...
