I'm not sure if Mad Men is actually better now than previous seasons, but it's certainly better for me. I love the added "bwaa-ha's" of this season—especially compared to the dreary Don in California episodes. I also respect a series creator who tortures their characters, and I can't wait to see if this Lucky Strike thing leads to Don's downfall.
I got from Megan's scene with Peggy that she wasn't really happy with her work. Peggy used a line that's something like "this is as good as this job gets" which made Megan rethink everything.
Combined with her father calling out her desire for more in her life, Megan both stepped into, and realized she didn't like, the role of Mrs. Don Draper.
I think #2 nailed it. This season is about Don making an earnest effort to change and commit to his marriage -- which will fail this time not necessarily because of his bad behavior, but because he married a woman too young for him in an era of massive social evolution. Anyway, who cares. REALLY, the show is now all about Sally and post-LSD Roger.
Megan's struggling to become something new, to fit into a role. It seems so important to have the man, and also prove herself as an individual in a time of changing women's roles. She breezes by people who want it more or are working harder, and to compensate, she tells herself she really wants it.
But when she finally achieved it she don't get the high she expected. It's a letdown, only she can't admit it's a letdown. Especially to Peggy you who would envy her position.
BTW, I want a Glen/Sally spinoff.

Second Twin Peaks alum this season!

It's a lonely place.
Her apparent unease was likely due to the fact that Peggy had just admitted that she previously tried to bone Don.
