Don't fixies have brakes? And if not, why the hell woul;d you ride one. I rode a fixie in my (long ago) youth and it had a coaster brake that worked just fine.
You know what's not ok? Fixed gear bikes with flat pedals (see craiglist ad above for reference). If you're riding a fixed gear bike and do not have toe clips, clipless pedals, some of those goofy power straps or some other way to attach your feet to your pedals then you're doing it wrong. This goes double if you don't have brakes.
If your fixie had a coaster brake it wasn't a fixie.

My bad. I thought a fixie was a bike with only one gear ratio. Just how fast can you stop a fixie with no brakes? Seems to be pretty dangerous when riding in traffic.
