I went in to 'What's the Scoop' recently and bought a pint. Everything I tasted was delicious and their pints were hard-frozen which was pretty convenient for tossing in my bag and taking to a picnic. The only ice cream I'm sure I like better is Salt & Straw though both suffer from the same disease: hard mix-ins that overwhelm the base flavors if you're not lucky enough to chance on the perfect bite.
One cute thing: What's the Scoop seems to be a family business, with children aged 12-20 manning the counters and kitchen when I went in.
I had liquid-nitrogen ice cream at the Vancouver Club last month - it was good! No add-ins, just straight chocolate. Didn't taste any different than normal great ice cream, but it was fun to watch them make it.
