Can insurers still force women to go through the ridiculous waste of time of having their pill Rx renewed each and every month?

Sleeping with me should be the only ridiculous waste of time foisted upon a lady.

Also-- this just applies to NEW policies, not policies that are "grandfathered" in-- for people who have been insured by same insurance for a while, you will have to wait 'til 2014. Booooooo to that. So check your policy start date to see.
