Luckily Hales was eventually able to "convince" a "local pinko rag" to "endorse" him.

Thanks for reminding me to make another contribution to Amanda Fritz.

As for this memo, it will be very interesting to see whether Hales created it using resources belonging to his private employer, but ultimately what interests me is the cynical them-vs-us way the document refers to the left-of-center voters who are, after all, the mainstream of Portland voters. Charlie Hales is not one of us, although for the next couple of months he would like us to think so.

I don't think there's any question who the left of center candidate is, and who is trying to bridge the gap. This document does little to argue against that construct IMO.

You're treating this like it's The Pentagon Papers and it's just not that big a deal. There are a lot of memos out there. You could find plenty from any campaign if you chose to.

There's also no context for what this doc is, who wrote it and why. What reason is there to think that a 1-pager that someone wrote in a half-hour is actually guiding strategy for the campaign?

At such an early stage, with no formal campaign structure in place, lots of people are writing memos. Some matter, some don't.

And, as it turns out, there's nothing there. Pretty tame expose, Denis.

Please wait...
