It never ceases to amaze me how low people will go just to drum up support for a failed ideology. Rape is rape. Most conservatives get it. Most liberals get it. It's not like liberals are the all-knowing oracles of women's issues. They just like to make people believe they are so they can demonize the other side. Romney asked Akin to step down. This isn't indicative of what will happen WHEN Romney is elected. We're not "going back to the dark ages" and abortion is being left alone for the moderates like Romney. I'm strictly pro-choice but even I can see the bullshit behind what Paul Constant is doing here. If liberals know soooooo much about the real problems that plague women and young teenage girls then why is there such a high instance of teen pregnancy where the resulting child will more than likely end up not growing up with a father? THOSE women are subjected to a life of servitude unless they can find a successful man to take care of them (or they decide to strip or sell themselves) with VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS. The kid will receive welfare and rightfully so, but does it HAVE to happen? That is terrible for young women. Most conservative households don't have those problems because they teach their kids morals. Conservative girls often go on to college where they learn how to be strong and make better choices about their future, whatever they CHOOSE for themselves. That is empowerment. So until liberals can get a handle on the ACTUAL problems that plague women, don't be demonizing an entire conservative base because a couple of misguided schmucks associated with the GOP foolishly run off at the mouth about something they clearly know nothing about. And don't sit there and lie and act like this is some grand social conspiracy by Republicans to put women in gov't issued chastity belts while preachers flog them for their indiscretions. Get a grip on reality, already. I wouldn't vote for Romney if I knew he tolerated people like Akin. Extremism is dumb on both sides and shouldn't ever tolerated by reasonable moderates. That is why I will vote for Romney. He is far more moderate than Obama has proven himself to be. And people like Paul Constant, with their Constant dishonest demonizing of the other side is only dividing our country and should be taken to task over their irresponsible articles. Bust it.

More superstitious crap from the right. Jesus walked with dinos, the universe is only 5 thousand years old, Mary was knocked up by God, and you can't get pregnant from "real" rape (not that fake rape, where you say "no" but really mean "yes").

There is no doubt but the Republican party is the anti-science and, yes, anti-women party. Wingnuts like Stjohnrules can try to apologize for that and make up all kinds of attempts to deflect, but that is the way it is. If you are a "social libertarian but fiscal conservative" holding your nose at this lunatic side of your party, just know that you will indeed be assumed to be in bed with those whackos. Because you are.
3
SJR: Conservative teens are getting accidentally knocked up just as much as liberal teens are. Your data is false, and your anecdote about morals is HILARIOUS. The main reasons there are so many unplanned teen pregnancies is because our public schools' sex education curriculums in most states are shitty, and because teens aren't knowledgeable enough about contraception, and they aren't knowledgeable about how to access it (or face stigma when they access it).

Also, apparently many grown-ups in the House are victims of crappy sex education.
4
SJR, the GOP's problem is the stupid shit they say on camera. Because they are idiots. The problem isn't "demonization from the left".

Their problem is they frequently open their own mouths and express the ignorant, racist, misogynistic, science-hating, hillbilly fever dream that is actually passing through their brains.

ROM, why isn't up to the PARENTS to teach their kids about morality and sexual activity? It is true it takes a village to raise a child but when that child gets conflicting information, the outcome is nothing short of absolute confusion. That's when young girls and women are at most risk. This stuff shouldn't have to be taught in schools where curriculum is never consistent and policies change according to the political tide at the time.

GOP doesn't own the patent on morality but what they do offer, in the form of churches and conservative groups, is the chance for young people to LEARN from people who have considerably more respect for morals than liberals and extremists do currently.

Blabby: The new Obama liberal cannot be trusted now. People like Paul Constant do nothing for society. Instead, they divide it. What I want is solutions that WORK for the toughest problems we all face. You think only the GOP says stupid shit? Joe Biden can single-handed compete in the Dumbfuck Olympics against the GOP this year. I would award him the Golden Dunce Cap this year.

I'm NOT a Republican. I'm not religious. I am pro-choice, ESPECIALLY when it comes to rape. That being said, abortion should not be used to as a fall back for a lifestyle of promiscuity. What it comes down to is really simple. Morals and personal responsibility. This ass clown Akin should remove himself from the race. No matter which side it comes from, extremism is stupid and should never be tolerated.
6
Dude, it is up to the parents and the schools. And parents often learn in schools. Parents were once children, too, you know. Comprehensive sex education should absolutely be taught in schools. And the states that do (or did) have a strong sex education program, such as Nevada, saw less STDs and less unwanted teen pregnancies. There is a huge amount of data out there showing that straight talk about sex does NOT encourage promiscuity, and DOES help prevent teen pregnancies. I am totally for parents being wonderful parents who teach their kids how to be good people. But I'm also for slashing the military budget and increasing the education budget, so that our school systems aren't a total joke.

And 173 conservatives (including huggable Paul Ryan) recently co-sponsored a bill that aims to make a distinction between "forcible rape" (which Akin now says he meant to say, rather than "legitimate rape") and, I dunno... non-forcible rape? So yeah, sorry about demonizing the entire conservative base. These 173 conservatives are obviously just some random extremists who don't represent all them reasonable conservatives.
7
SJR, you are trying to shoot the messenger. Conservatives say backward shit because they are backward. Just own it.

What women don't need is someone like you, or a 70-year-old male politician, or a Catholic priest telling them about women's issues. They know what rape is. They know what pregnancy is. They aren't waiting for men to educate them about women's health, or define "rape" for them, which is why these guys sound so stupid when they try.
8
So, Obama and Biden have no business weighing in these issues, either. Right? Harry Reid can just be quiet. Only Condaleeza Rice and Hilary Clinton shall be deemed worthy of an opinion on the matter. Fuck that. No. Only Ellen and Rosie....wait....no....Dan Savage....no... where do women go for information....?

Whatever. The fact that you believe that men don't have the right to an opinion about women's issues makes you horribly misguided or seriously delusional. You should look into that. I don't know what kinda of hippie bullshit you've been sold but if it wasn't for some brave men throughout history, women would likely still be oppressed and submissive in society. These men worked with Susan B. Anthony and those like her in shaping the country we have today so women are infinitely more equal than previous centuries. In your zeal to jump to the defense of women, generally speaking, you completely disregard the brave men who paved the road for those women to march down in the name of real equality.

I love women and I stand by my statements. I want women to succeed and make just as much money as a man in a comparable job. I want them completely strong and empowered to make the choice of career or housewife, whichever road THEY choose is up to them. Teaching them morals gives them a leg up in a fractured society and ultimately can make all the difference in the spiritual happiness of the rest of their lives. Not teaching them morals and not leading them in the right directions makes them vulnerable to predators. That is the opposite of progress. That is social abuse.

Sorry ROM, I missed your post above. The IS a difference between forcible rape by a stranger and "date rape". Liberals are running hard with this one in an attempt to make the GOP look like heartless tyrants.

Here is the difference and I will tread lightly for all you sensitive types. Forcible rape is when a woman absolutely does not want any contact with a man. Date rape is not the same because maybe a woman wants to kiss her date but not have intercourse yet he pushes her, not necessarily physically, but possibly emotionally until she does something she might later regret. Both CAN occur at the same time. Date rape almost always means that both people are attracted to each other enough to be in the same room alone together. There are also women who put out false allegations which is just as despicable as a man who rapes a woman, no matter which form. What I'm saying is date rape can be a super-charged gray area that can adversely affect lives. What if the woman has intercourse but later feels regret that she "gave in"? Is that rape? Is it rape if a woman teases a guy and he is overly aggressive with her eventually leading to intercourse? No doesn't always mean no. What about roleplay that goes too far?

There is a difference and as society evolves, we need to define it properly so the scumbags get the worst of it while the innocent victims have a chance at fairness in the courts.

Stjohnsrules, your ability to contradict yourself in a single paragraph is astounding. Especially because you started off strong: most liberals and most conservatives DO get it. The problem is that the the Republican elected officials are not "most" people. But to deny that there is a movement to erode women's rights is a patently uneducated statement.
Do you know when birth control became covered by health insurance in the state of Oregon? I do, because I had already been using it for years. It was in 2007, and it took 14 years of lobbying. I thought once that bill passed (thanks to a Democratic majority) that the women's rights debate was pretty much over. We were approaching wage equality, we could vote and own property, and we could choose when and whether we wanted to have a child. I realize now that my sense of security was mistaken.
Meanwhile, you blame liberals for providing insufficient services to teens to prevent pregnancy, despite the fact that "liberal" sex education programs have shown the most effective results, time and time again, when compared to abstinence education.
And yet, I still can't be sure where you even stand on the issue of abortion. Seemingly, you are for it, since apparently conservative women go to college in higher numbers (where did you even get that idea?) and able to "choose" for themselves (pro-choice?), and furthermore do not require welfare. However, regardless of your views on the issue, I truly resent your classification of single mothers as being "subjected to a life of servitude." There are plenty of strong, hardworking, single women with children in this country. Not all of them view a rich man as the answer to their problems, because many of them don't see being a single mother as a problem. Most of them are not strippers. Very few of them are prostitutes. Even fewer of them would identify as a literal slave to the child they have been so bothered as to raise.
Liberals know the problems that actually plague women today. One of those problems is a slew of uneducated comments like Akin's, like King's, and like yours, that attempt to classify us, our lives, and experiences into whatever the speaker is currently ranting about, with no regard to truth, accuracy, or science.
And for the record, my "liberal" household is taught morals. They are taught not to lie, which includes making things up and saying them because they *might* be true. They are taught to treat others the way they wish to be treated, which includes refraining from making someone else's health decisions. And they are taught that if they aren't educated about a subject, they should read more about it before telling others they're wrong.

Hey- stjohnsrules, you are obviously mistaken about the term "date rape." I know, it's quite a challenging misnomer. But the term doesn't suggest you agreed to go on a date with the rapist, and then made out with them a little, and then you played just the tip and then it was kinda hot so you went for it and in the end it made you feel like a dirty slut, and sometime during your walk of shame home the next morning you decided to cry rape because you thought it might make you feel better. NO ONE is suggesting that is rape.
Date rape is actually really simple: It's when a man drugs you so that you black out and you wake up and you don't know where you are or how you got there, but oh hey, you are covered in bruises and your vag is sore and there is semen dripping down your leg. THAT is rape, and it's forcible because you didn't agree to sex and you didn't agree to being drugged. Drugging someone's drink is battery- it's an unwanted touching. Now if you want to explain to me how battery + un-consented-to sex isn't rape, I'll try not to be so "sensitive."

bzcrz: Since when do taxpayers have to subsidize your contraception so you can have an active sex life? Part of being responsible is caring for yourself. This whole socialized medicine is a joke and in a bad economy it is borderline retarded. Look, I don't want to have to pay for the obesity epidemic, either. But that's all part of the grand plan, right? I don't believe it is my responsibility bzcrz to chip in so you can fuck whenever and whomever you choose. You are certainly free to do so. Just don't take from me for it.

You rely on government WAY too much. But I don't think that's necessarily your fault. You were brought up that way in a system that will ultimately set you up to fail at one point or another. I was educated in Portland AND Oregon and I have met many, many educators along the way and my how times have changed in the name of "progress". More government is not the answer. Religion at least teaches abstinence, though I think some religions views about sexuality, as a whole, are too stringent and unrealistic. Want a endless source of energy? Strap horny teenagers into a grid like on the Matrix and use their sexual energy to power the world. I don't know if that qualifies as "clean" energy but at least we can take a hot shower afterward.

@dirtyslut: You know, I love dirty sluts as long as they protect themselves and don't expect me to pay for them being hot little whores. Unless I'm the one gettin' it.
13
@Stjohnsrules: I'm glad we can agree on one thing, that neither of us wants to pay for the obesity epidemic. Having said that...

That you jump to the conclusion that taxpayers support my "active sex life" relates back to my advice that perhaps you should educate yourself before you attack others.

I pay for my health insurance out of pocket, because I am not provided a plan at work. Not only is my health insurance in no way related to your tax dollars, I am not eligible for a FSA so I am actually spending post-tax money on health insurance. It's expensive. But I do it because I have a responsibility to be healthy if I can afford to. I live paycheck to paycheck, but I can, indeed, afford health insurance. (This part relates back to my advice about not classifying women based on whatever point you are trying to make; here, that point would be that anyone in favor of birth control being covered by health insurance must surely be on government assistance.)

My point regarding the 2007 birth control law was that it required health insurance providers to cover birth control. Previously, providers were not obligated to provide it at the regular prescription rate, as they were other prescriptions. Again, that is in no way paid for by your tax dollars, it is paid for by MY premium. So please don't get so high and mighty and assume that you are paying for my health care. I am.

Also, please don't assume that I am attempting to use tax dollars to "fuck whoever I want." It may shock you to know that there are several reasons a woman may wish to use birth control, including irregular periods, extreme PMS symptoms, acne, and hormonal balance. It may further shock you to know that there are many women on birth control who are quite conservative, sexually. I say this speaking from personal experience, but I do believe it is also taught in sex education classes- where sex education classes are actually taught.
14
bzcrz: Believe it or not, I respect what you have to say. What I was referring to, specifically, is Obamacare and one Sandra Fluke, who has come out as the liberal spokesman/woman/person/LGBTQTGIFLOLSTFU (liberals fucking love their acronyms) for sluts and whores. Birth control is meant to PLAN parenthood, which is hilarious considering that Planned Parenthood doesn't really do much to help people plan anything. They mostly deal with the consequences. I'm pro-choice and definitely open-minded when it comes to having fun in the sack, but I am responsible if I don't wear a rubber and fuck a chick who has (insert nasty STD here). My point is, should America have to pay for my care if I contract an STD? But it BURNNNNNNSSSSSSSS......

The liberal idea of sex education in school is a dismal failure. But now that the government has their greedy little hands in the cookie jar, they can take from me and you to teach kids about something that should come their own parents and family while never, ever properly addressing the root causes of the problem. So take more from me. And you. Pay for my irresponsibility and then criticize others for calling me out on it. Fuckers. How dare you question my right to birth control even though I could exercise a little self control and save America a few extra bucks while I pay for shit myself?

That sounds real fair. Right?

The system is not flawed. It is fucked. It gets worse the more government is involved.
15
"What I'm referring, specifically, is a bunch of crap I made up so that I don't have to respond to anything you said. -SJR

Haha, he doesn't even know what Planned Parenthood does. What a train wreck of a thread.
16
ROM: I know exactly what Planned Parenthood does. It receives government subsidies for many services for women and children, including abortion. That means tax payers are on the hook if a woman just doesn't want her child or if she contracts an STD after being promiscuous. I'm pro-choice but I don't think the government has any business being in the abortion business unless a woman was raped. If not, SHE should pay for it at a private clinic. Life has consequences. Sometimes you have to be a big girl and pay for it. They also receive subsidies for "sex education". Well, you're talking about women who have failed "sex education" and wind up there to compel society to fix their mistakes instead of taking responsibility for their own actions. Beforehand.

Why should the government be involved sex education at all? It isn't up to them or schools to teach kids morals. All the government does is take your money in the name of "women's rights" and then wastes that money while perpetuating the problem. And people fall for it. Because they don't want to be against women's rights. Noooooo. Not that. What a crock.

As far as rape goes, women can do a great deal to protect themselves. Maybe we should compel them at age 12 to enlist in an "Enter The Dragon" type of competition and training. Make it mandatory. Like Jewish women and their compulsory military service. Or, maybe more gun ownership is the answer. When you are dealing with animals of society, your best bet is to treat them like a wild animal. These fuckers are predators. Don't be a victim. Be the victor.
17
No, you do not have your facts straight. Have you ever stepped inside a Planned Parenthood? Have you had a conversation with anyone who has? You clearly know very little about the services the organization provides, and the reasons why the many people go there. For many many people, Planned Parenthood is not a place to visit after you're gotten an STD or become pregnant.

And the majority of Planned Parenthood's funds do not come from the government. And the majority of the funds that do come from the gov come from Medicaid.
http://www.factcheck.org/2011/04/planned-p…
And, most importantly (to your super crappy argument), the funds from the government DO NOT pay for abortions. How do you not know this? You're a victim of the media, with little real-world experience, common sense, or education.

And sex education is not only about teaching morals! ::BOGGLE o.O::

You don't have to pretend you're an expert at every topic. And you don't have to have a firm opinion on every topic. Please read bzcrz's comments a couple more times, and consider actually understanding them.
18
Er, I meant to say, "Planned Parenthood is not JUST a place to visit after you're gotten an STD or become pregnant."

And to comment on something you said earlier: no, the purpose of birth control is not just to control pregnancies. As bzcrz noted, many women use it for other purposes (such as hormonal balance, regulating periods, etc.). Learning is fun, huh?

I'd love to see SJR rants about how "his taxes" are paying for dudes' boner pills. C'mon man, show us your independence.

Now just lay off with the campaign of bullshit against me. I'm not stupid. I'm not a liar. I'm not a demon. I'm your neighbor and we just disagree. So chill.
