I agree with your stick-up-butt-edness. That nomination process you described on MOD was absurd, and basically the opposite of savvy. Without passing on the wisdom of the entire thing, it shouldn't take a genius to realize that if you want first-year buy-in, you're going to need to suck up to all of the biggest names, which would include a) nominating them, and b) doing whatever you could to make sure they didn't get humiliated by losing out to some undeserving nobody who has the quarter brain it requires to manipulate this "system."

So the very absurdity of it will either assure that it never happens again, or incite the biggies to use their bigness to steer it in a better direction.
