Stupid ageism remark is not only disrespectful but also stupid and unfunny. Because omg history is so, like, lame amirite? Stick to being a biased and shitty journalist (?) and lay of the weak disrespect of a prior generation that was far superior to anything you asshats will achieve. Assuming you have goals that is. Besides complaining, and being snarky jackasses.

When I was a kid we didn't have these fancy-ass blown-glass double-bongs, we just used acrylic bongs and if we couldn't get those we walked five miles through the snow to steal tinfoil from Gramma so we could make a pipe out of it. (And pilfer her stash, too.)

Woah. Crank calling just got a little more serious.

And, jesus @Showstopper, maybe you should put down the coffee. A more lucid reading of that sentence shows >9th graders that Denis was talking about young whipper-snappers who have no historical memory. Nothing about the old farts, except that there remain a few alive that were also alive 70 years ago.

I spoke with a close family member who works for the Feds in drug law enforcement, if there was a policy that the Feds were planning, that person would know, and they didn’t have a clue. The Feds are scrambling to come up with a solution themselves. After spending some time talking, here’s what we concluded is the likely response, which is bidirectional:

The DEA will expand its offices in Portland and Idaho and Colorado’s border states under the pretext of “combating illicit trafficking”, and will step up enforcement of marijuana laws. Right now the federal standard is several hundred marijuana plants will merit the attention of the Feds, that will decrease and the feds will get involved on the suspicion of trafficking at any level. As long as the DEA has lackeys at the local level (i.e. sheriff’s departments and city police) to enforce laws, then it will be the DEA simply funding these adventures. You see, the DEA ceases assets after a raid, sells the assets, and splits the money with the agencies involved. Unfortunately for the federal government, it’s likely that the local LEOs will shift attention to more dangerous elements within their communities. Likely, city enforcement of marijuana laws will diminish first, then county, then state – until it’s the Feds doing this enforcement by themselves, which they are more than willing to do currently (just look at California’s raids).

The other direction is the ONDCP (i.e. Drug Czar), which is going to levy law suits and political pressure on both elected leaders in Washington state and the law enforcement in Washington. The ONDCP’s desire is for the State legislators to push for centralized state-control of marijuana distribution and manufacturing. The ONDCP will likely push for a very limited number of marijuana grow sites and distribution sites within the state, so that the ability of independent growers is reduced/destroyed. All of this will be leveraged on the Federal government’s money, utilizing the same tactics with alcohol prohibition and marijuana prohibition: no more Federal funding for roads, schools and infrastructure from the Feds until state law resembles the federal desires.

The Feds are also going to be balancing their intervention with the very real threat of insurrectionism, that is to say that the Federal government is genuinely concerned that they may be attacked (i.e. shot at) for enforcing federal law. So, if there is backlash, the feds will instead focus their attention on border states like Oregon rather than Washington. This insurrectionism is real, especially with Obama in office, and it will unite conservative-leaning older folks with the young dreamers of liberty: a dangerous combination. At some point, bullets will fly in both directions as the Feds step in, which is perfectly fine and good for everyone’s liberty as a nation (just ask Thomas Jefferson about when blood should be spilled).

So what are you to do, as a Citizen?

Sit back and smoke some weed, for sure. That’s goal #1. Just embrace it, and have a good time. Watch commerce grow, crime decrease, and spend the warm summer days on a porch across the great Columbia river. Inevitably, after smoking enough pot, you’ll really come to question the necessity and authority of Federal Agents administrating a law that The People stand in direct opposition to. Inevitably, too, this drug war will become a lot more personal to you, especially if you or a loved one is “busted” by the federal government for something that’s completely legal, harmless, and approved by voters. This won’t be the same cake-walk as the Medical Marijuana, as the Feds want to contain this wild-fire before it spreads to other States and all over the world.

The next step is to get angry. You have to get MAD! You've got to say, "I'm a human being, goddammit! My life has value!" You’ve got to understand that it is you, and only you as an individual, who has to take a stand and struggle against the jackboot thugs of the Federal Government. You have to take personal responsibility for upholding the rule of law and equality of citizens, and you have to do this with the utmost vigor that your mind and body can take. You've got to put your body upon the gears, upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all. To continue a thought from the other day: Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what a people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress. If you submit quietly to the injustice of your neighbor, then soon that same injustice will be brought upon you as well.

The case is before you. This is our golden opportunity. Let us accept it, and forever wipe out the dark reproaches unsparingly hurled against us... Let us win for ourselves the gratitude of our country, and the best blessings of our posterity through all time.

@GeezRilley...you are indeed correct. I apologize to Denis. It's a subject I am passionate about, and I will admit I reacted without reading the piece.

Please wait...
