The most mind-bogglingly offensive part of all of this is that these talking points are the result of very careful conversations between gun lobbyists and the brightest lights in the GOP messaging machine.

The fact that this intelligence-insulting deflection is the strongest sauce they could come up with speaks volumes about the ludicrous weakness of their position, and the contempt they have for their audience.

I think deflection is a fine tactic to use, if you're deflecting to something of more substance.

But, even if there was evidence that video games made children more violent (and there's not http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2209986… ), legislation to ban the sale of such games to minors is unconstitutional.

In 2011, the Supreme Court struck down a California law that tried to do that in a 7-2 decision. Scalia--yes, crazy hat-wearing Scalia--wrote the majority opinion and found that California's law “abridges the First Amendment rights of young people whose parents (and aunts and uncles) think violent video games are a harmless pastime.”

So, no, you cannot ban the sale of violent video games to kids and no, video games do not make children homicidal.

The NRA may be onto something here. After all, Pac-Man is solely responsible for my weight gain.

And in Iraq today a mass grave was discovered outside of Abu Ghraib, it was estimated to be 6 years old and contained the bodies of 18 people, 8 were in police uniforms. 6 additional people were killed and 6 were wounded in Baghdad, 4 people were killed and three wounded in Mosul, an army barracks was attacked in Hit, and an additional two police officers were wounded along with a cleric killed in other parts of the country. That’s just one day, I wonder what tomorrow will be like…
