Could be semen is like Prozac (only higher in saturated fats).

"Straight guys, on the other hand, never get to stop worrying about passing for straight."

Is this a psychological deconstruction of teens and frat boys, or does someone honestly think straight adult men consciously think about that sort of thing in statistically-significant numbers?

My immediate reaction is to wonder if the study controlled for parenthood/head-of-household? Because the simple fact that straight guys are more likely to have kids or dependent partners is easily enough to explain higher stress.

Likely, by the time they become adult, they are so attenuated to it that they no longer consciously think about it, but it lurks back in the background, constantly judging.

I'm not sure that just parenthood is enough to cover the difference. When you hear coming out stories, often you hear adjectives like 'feeling free' or 'released'. I'm willing to bet that it plays out in a whole bunch of smaller life things, when you abandon a social role, you get to pick and choose which elements of whatever culture you want. Like Dan says above, Watch football and memorize musicals.

I spent five years working with children. I like kids, get along with them, enjoy their enthusiasm. And yet, I was crucially aware of how different I was treated. Parents would always say something like "It's so good that you are providing a male role model!" and at the same time, I got grilled for anything. If I corrected children, I was 'too rough', if I called for everyone to line up, I was "Yelling at the kids". If I read a book with a kid in my lap, I was 'inappropriately touching'. After noting the same things happening again and again, I finally gave up. It wasn't going to be fair, ever. Even 'liberal Portlanders' still fear a male in the classroom is going to rape and beat their children.
I have so much respect for women who go into male-dominated fields.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
