Seriously though, aside from this "easy money" that studios might get by essentially getting fans to cough up $25-30 apiece for the opportunity to become part of the supply chain instead of just the demand - Veronica Mars has to make money. An actual profit. Until that happens, nobody in Hollywood is going to be following Rob Thomas' lead anywhere.
I am very excited! I donated! Many sandwiches will go uneaten! But I am trying to temper my excitement by remembering that Veronica Mars was also TERRIBLE at times, and it's possible this movie will not be a refresh of that first season that was so great.
But at least we get to watch Kristen Bell for another two hours. And if they don't try to write Dax Shephard in, I'm sold.
Oh, and Bobby -- it's true about the profit. And considering this is surely going to be very, very limited theatrical release and that 33,700 of the 45,700 donors so far will be receiving a free digital download of the movie within a few days release.. I'd say big profit is not looking promising.
I don't get why TV shows are ever supposed to lead to movies - the two are very, very different things.
A second, related thing that I don't get: the adaptations always suck. How many fingers does it take to list the good adaptations? The bad? The proper reaction based on the numbers should be, "oh fuck, they're making a movie out of my favorite TV show."
I've got a great kickstarter movie project it's called Human Trafficking and we all spend some money and time revealing the tax loopholes, shell companies, and purchased officials that allow human lives to be bought and sold and artificially altered at sea and trucked throughout the world to be tortured until spiritually or physically dead and then we uhhh oh film it I guess or something and we all feel good about it because we'll get Morgan Freeman to do something. Cameo? Voiceover? Maybe a talking dog sidekick?
PEE-WEE'S BIG INFECTION
ANDY WARHOL'S SCAPULA

BOOKER RISES (STARRING RICHARD GRIECO....ANYONE, ANYONE??)
Hey, from a person who never watched Veronica Mars, is it actually worth checking out?
Oh man, it's so good:
"Drive! Push it to the floor till the engines scream!
Drive! Driving like the demon that drives your dreams!"

In fairness, though, I don't get a lot of things.
