I don't think voters understood the ballot issue when they voted. I was surprised the arts tax passed. I paid it. I don't think it is fair. I did not vote in favor of it.
2
What happens if you don't pay?
3
Reluctantly yes. I voted against it but it passed democratically, so I will pay it. I will also hope it gets rejected as unconstitutional but in the meantime I will perform my civic duty.
4
...and will they pay us interest if it is found unconstitutional?
5
I make six figures and believe I should pay much more in comparison to a college student. Turns out the Oregon Constitution already requires this. I am paying it but support efforts to make it progressive.
6
Oh yeah? Well I make 7 figures. Line up, ladies.
7
I make eight figures out of Play-Doh and stick pins in them during every Mercury editorial meeting, while weeping softly in my room.
8
Penalty for nonpayment is $35, so at worst you're out $70.

Worth it to me, I expect it'll fail in the courts.
9
Maybe they should change that to a Math tax instead...$35+$25=$60, so at worst you're out 60 bucks (unless you were tossing a ten spot for the inevitable tax evasion related drinking blues) Chunty.
10
Scratch that the tax is 35 bucks, I'm the real idiot here, and I didn't delete my post for proof of that.

Also: Dan Saltzman has extracted promises, repeatedly, from the Revenue Bureau, that no one's going to sic a debt collector on you until you blow off at least a few years' worth of arts tax payments.

Please wait...
