Hollywood celebrities and the movie industry are generally over payed and over idolized narcissistic douche bags. Movies are an over priced distraction that not everybody likes to waste their time and money on.
Ten bucks for two hours is a bad investment when I don't have steady work. I would have liked to have seen Pacific Rim, but the tickets are too much—at least from what I've noted the last time I got my balls slapped at the ticket counter.
Pacific Rim is up to $186 million, almost its production budget. It'll probably get to $250 million eventually, and then do pretty well in DVD, Blu-Ray, Redbox, streaming, etc.
It is disappointing, though. I hope it doesn't prevent Del Toro from working on another movie for very long. Maybe people are burnt out on superhero-ish movies? Maybe because it's not an established IP or franchise? I dunno. The video game sucks, I can tell you that much.
