I'm confused about the funding. How can they take on oversight of an additional agency and hire a person with no new funding? They say they'll ask ratepayers for funding. Are they supported by donations?
I too am confused about the funding. Is this saying that this oversight will only happen if there is enough privately donated money? Doesn't that open the door to bias? And what if there aren't enough donated funds?
The Citizen's Utility Board is supported by donations. Their mission is to reduce utility bills of residential and small business customers. The water initiative is supported by donations too - from corporations who would benefit. Personally I trust Jenks and Novick. And this is perfect opportunity for the Merc to request their 990's and do a feature on CUB.
Is the time you spend on this campaign being billed to the harbor polluters group?
