Lol jarhead mor like shithead, amirite?

Jarhead's an idiot but he's a correct one. The cop isn't facing charges because it was a justified shoot, duh.
4
Wow. I wasn't suggesting the officer deserved to be charged. I was suggesting it seems like a clear-cut case. That's why I said it's not controversial.
5
Ahhh, trying to backtrack on a snarky headline?
6
The headline does read more like "police killed another fucker and got away with it", but the article clarifies (while still being snarky) :

"Out of all the officer-involved shootings Portland's seen in recent years, the 49-year-old Swoboda's death may be the least controversial."

Yeah, the headline was pretty bad, Dirk. And now you know that.

Normally pretty against police shootings but not in the right circumstances. Sometimes people have to reap the consequences of their choices and actions. For some of these guys prison is not a deterrent, they love it in there. Prison provides a guaranteed meal, shelter, tv, utilities, friends to play games with, and weaker people to exploit. For them the brief periods that they are free are just vacations from incarceration which they consider their normal life. They have no intention of staying out, they are just racking up points for when they go back. They are predatory on the inside and being on the outside is just a larger environment in which to cause mayhem and hurt people. According to the news stories I read in the month or two before this incident this guy was definitely a candidate for an officer involved shooting. As soon as he was released from prison he skipped the halfway house and began robbing and kidnapping people. The guy had been in and out of jail, prison, and federal prison his whole life and really only appeared to be getting worse as he was getting convicted of worse and worse crimes. Prison isn't necessarily the most therapeutic environment but at some point when a longstanding pattern of predatory behavior exists its fair to say somebody is not trying to be a functioning part of society. I know softhearted people want to say somebody was raised wrong or blame mental illness but some people are just scumbags. They have absolutely no desire to get along with you, you just have stuff they want that they know they can take away from you. With this guy and his itchy trigger finger and penchant for violence against other humans that were merely minding their own business how long was it going to be before he caused the death of some other innocent person? How many chances do people like this deserve? Live by the gun die by the gun.

The headline, besides being snarky, isn't even true. The officer did face charges. The case was brought before a grand jury, but he was not indicted on the charges issued. If he had not faced charges, the DA would not have even brought the case to the grand jury. The fact that someone would report on a topic so clearly not understood should be embarrassing.

If you shoot enough people you are bound to hit a deserving criminal once in a while.

Enough people piled on, and hopefully you learned something. Real life is not fucking Glee or Community or a chance to post a "clever" headline. You generally seem geared towards journalism and have a responsibility (even if it is the Mercury)........so please try to respect that . In this case it would have been ludicrous if the officer had been charged with anything other than doing his job.

You should attempt to redeem yourself here in my view....the officer fired upon a suspect who had commited armed robbery, kidnapping and was stalking kids? Where were you, blogging about bikes? I am not the spokesperson for the police in fact I have my issues with the manner in which they do certain things, but this is a bullshit way to write and report actual incidents. Keep the spin to yourself

Please wait...
