So, my girlfriend and I were going to bed around 2:30, and right as I was falling asleep we heard a loud siren immediately followed by a succession of gunshots. They were loud too, obviously not handgun fire. I thought the siren may have been a house alarm from a burglary gone bad, but it looks as though it was from the police car that was chasing the suspects as they crashed into a light pole and fled on foot. I didn't know an officer was actually wounded, but I swear I was hearing a lot of howling from a dog in pain at one point.
We were basically up until 6 in the morning listening to the police scanner and amidst the chaos and watching in real time as a small armada of police and SERT were setting up a perimeter in our neighborhood. Scary shit, but I gotta say the Portland police handled the situation like pros.
