It wasn't rape.
2
I think you are starting to take this TV show a little too seriously, dork.
3
It was definitely rape.

Depiction does not mean endorsement.

And I don't recall Jaime raping Cercei in the books.

The fact of the rape is completely beside the point. You can't just argue that 'in our society rape is bad and murder with swords is out of style and therefore doesn't matter.' This scene is upsetting because Jamie is a character who you simultaneously sympathize with and despise.
It's too easy to be comfortable with the idea that all rapists are irredeemable assholes who don't deserve to live or to be pitied. That may or may not be true, but I think that what we know about human nature is people are more complicated than that, and this is especially true in the fantasy world of Westeros. The truth is that horrible people get raped and good people get raped, and it all sucks. You can't just say that horrible people shouldn't get raped in a fantasy world because someone in the real world might think they're getting their comeuppance.
You especially can't parade around on this moral high-ground while glossing over all the atrocities committed throughout the show. Morality is relative, and to only project a part of yours on a fantasy world is absurd.

Also, in this thread: Rape Apologists. Which usually means MRAs. This will be entertaining.

God forbid that a TV show should make someone feel something, or think, or make you uncomfortable, or depict things that actually happen and that suck when they do. I mean, the rape was only one of many things about that scene that would make one want to take a Purell bath.

Can't wait for next Monday's Blogtown entry: "This weekend, on a very special Blossom..."

I really wanted to see a dragon just swoop down and bite off the head of the Meereen champion like a boss. oh well

Cersei asked Jamie to kill Tyrion first, he said "NO"...she insisted...He asked for sex, she said "NO" he insisted....seems like a fair trade...2 NO's make a right?!...This was all so fucked up anyway, it was right next to their dead insestual love child. These people are both so messed up, Jamie was kind of on the path of good and his sister was roping him back to the dark side with murder of a sibling...all he was thinking of was I love you and if this is what you want "as wrong as it is" this is my payment!!....ewe!!!!...this is all gross, I'm writing most of this from the perspective of the show and not my own views, just devils advocate...I love the show and this was just one of the messed up things that happened. Lest we forget, this is the couple that that pushed a kid off the side of a castle to cover up their insest and everything was cool...bad people are bad even if we like them once in awhile.

Rape? He loves her and she loves him. They should be allowed to get married

The scene is in the book. In fact, Cersei comes around and enjoys it, in the book. It's just a fucking TV show, full of children killing people. To object to one and not the other is ridiculous. If you believe that people are going to see murder and say 'not for me' but see a rape and say 'ooh, let's do that' then YOU are the one uncoupling rape from the horrors of war.

I saw 30 seconds of one episode of this stupid show because somebody was all "Yeah bro it's the best shit ever" and it was some dude in mascara looking like an extra from a System of a Down video getting rapey with some blonde chick who desperately needed a cheeseburger. Nope.

Please wait...
