THIS. Couldn't agree more.

LuLZ. I,A IS A FUCKING DOUCHEBAG AND FULL OF ENTITLEMENT. NO ONE STOPPED ANYONE ELSE FROM PROTESTING. THEY JUST ASKED THEM TO NOT DO IT IN A CERTAIN SPOT FOR 12 HOURS. OH, FUCKING NO! ALSO, THE OCTOPIED GENERAL ASSEMBLY *AGREED* TO WORK WITH THE MARATHON. SO YEAH, IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT YOU SHOULD HAVE SWAYED THE GROUP TO DO SOMETHING ELSE.

Also - how the hell does camping in a park "do anything to improve the situation for the 100,000 people in the PDX area who are jobless, the 49 million people in this country with no access to health care, the 29% of children in the PDX area who face "food insecurity", and the fact that all of this coincides with an unprecedented (and untaxed) profit boom for this country's most powerful corporations?"

You're not DOING anything down there, you're just having a really lousy theme party.

What an incredible ASSHOLE this writer is.
After all the to-do, it seemed as if both events went on with no sore-feelings, with the Marathon that had planned their event long ago giving in some space.
Then this?
I spoke to the pompous attitudes of some of the 'occupiers' before, but this guy takes the cake.
Between writers like this and then Al Sharpton joining the NY crowd, I'm becoming less inclined to favorably view this whole damn thing.

The Portland Marathon is a charity fundraiser. I don't have the final numbers, but apparently it raised around $2 million for these organizations. http://www.portlandmarathon.org/charities.…

you idiot.

I'm 100% in support of Portland OCCUPY. I've camped there, marched, donated more food than i've taken, provoked discussions, etc. And i think this IA is being kind of a jerk about this. The marathon HAD been planned for a year in advance. OCCUPY oganizers apparently did not take that into account.

That being said, things turned out just FINE for both OCCUPY and the big run. People communicated with each other. Adams was made aware of this. And there was surprisingly minimal hassle from the cops, even (so far). Infact, the marathon has resulted in ADDING even MORE people to OCCUPY b/c guess fucking what? ALL of those marathon participants are part of the 99% too! NOBODY ran rough-shot over anyone dude, chill out. Camp was closed for just 11 hours. Marchers were about to sit infront of city hall for awhile. The marathon is over now, but WE'RE still there!

Oh my....
DamosA being the voice of reason?
8
Yeah...the Portland Marathon is a charity fundraiser. It was also planned waaaaay in advance. If it really was that big of a deal, the protestors should've picked another weekend to sit around in public space.
9
The IA needs to realize that a lot of in Portland are fairly bored with protests that don't seem to have a clear aim. Wow, banners reading "Fuck capitalism"--that make a big difference in getting people jobs in Oregon. You think you're entitled to the space in front of City Hall? No, you're entitled to shit. Also, hope that whole area smells like a giant toilet at this point--disgusting. Even the homeless people are pissed that you clowns ruined their afternoon siesta/chillout spot.

Actually, NOT exercising is selfish. Without enough exercise, you will have bad health. If you have bad health and you have an insurance policy, others sharing your policy will have to pay more to get you fixed up. If you don't have health insurance, then probably you can't afford to get yourself fixed up and so the public helps pay the cost or the hospitals eat it and then pass the cost on to insurance companies which pass it on to policyholders. So, thanks for being a slob so that I can pay later for you.
11
This is one of the most annoying things I've ever read.
12
"selfish need for attention"
Indeed.
13
"Oh my....
DamosA being the voice of reason?"

You always have to talk shit, no matter what huh? My gods, what would you do if i were not here? I'm guessing you'd just shrivel up and die, i suppose.
14
Damosa, I think he meant it as a compliment to you!
15
Sure he did. With just an oh so subtle dash of sarcasm. How glowing of him.
16
Thus once again all too easily luring out the man-child we know and love.

Trashcan.
17
Take what you can get DamosA.
It's the best I can do
for a racist like you.
18
@iceprez - it was more like a back-handed compliment to DamosA, just to be clear. I don't always agree with DamosA but he is one of us and even though his persona (it is only a persona and to the lady who said he should maintain his philosophies in real life is an idiot, a blog persona is all it is and all it should be- who you are in a blog isn't necessarily synonymous with who you are in real life) in this blog isn't always agreeable, he does have his moments of clarity and should be given credit.

I say this only because it is the truth as I see it and would want the same sort of respect.

As for the Anony post- why is this even an issue. Boohoo, I'm going back to sleep...
19
I agree with Damos in comment 6. I thought the cooperation between the city, the marathon and the occupiers went very well.
20
It's all over with now and AMAZINGLY the city hasn't collapsed in on itself. Can we give this one a freakin' rest, already?
21
Sure.
Uh, can you get out of the street now?
Thanks.

Please wait...
