This sounds like BoJack when he has to ride public transit.
2
There's hardly any public bathrooms in this city, let alone places to shower!

Besides, plenty of folks who are NOT homeless could stand to shower more often, too - and use deodorant DAILY. This is Portland, afterall. So don't just single out the homeless.
3
ASSHOLE!
4
I'm surprised more people aren't jumping all over this. Someone talks shit about vegans or pigeons or whatever and there's rioting in the streets, but this one gets it easy? Lame.
5
This could be a lady you know.
6
I dunno Kate, maybe it's just too damn obvious. The author is a worthless prick -regardless of gender, T. Craig- and there's not really much beyond that I have to say.
7
The author hates having to endure horrid stench belonging to filthy people--it's a bit over the top to label him/her "a worthless prick." The issue the complainer raises isn't that homeless people suck, it's that SOME homeless people need to make more effort to clean themselves. Sounds like some NEVER bathe. I know most homeless try to find SOME way to clean up once in awhile. Maybe the author can invite one to a shower at his/her place.

Some young hippie types, mostly vegans by the looks of em, smell to high heaven. I rode my bike past one the other day, who was standing at least 30 feet upwind, and it was nauseating.
8
You know, you're right; the author's just ignorant and so on. You're the ignorant prick. Regardless of gender.
9
Whoops. "Worthless." Worthless prick. Sorry.
10
The author isn't a worthless prick by drawing attention to Portland's famous "alternative" hygiene, however bitch ass-sounding he/she has come off. This person's a worthless prick for singling out homeless folks exclusively.
11
Yep. There's a whole lot more than just homeless folk that need a dip in soap and H2O. At a recent concert, a dread having couple had such bad BO that the misses actually puked, almost on them, but they moved too quick. Take a bath people!
12
pathetic cringing politically-correct hand-wringing libtards
13
This guy is promoting medieval medical beliefs? For the longest time, people thought that's how you spread disease. Yeah, dick, and they don't anymore- because THAT'S NOT TRUE. Why is defending homeless people politically correct but it's okay for Ann Romano to interupt 'One Day At A Time' for humorless, out-of-place urges to support the movement for same-sex marriage? What do you suggest these 'homeless people' do? Stay off the the TriMet when their cold or tired? Shower at the Portland Rescue Mission-where they routinely give out clothes, blankets, and sheets with visible and olfactory signs of urine- where the employees mock sick, exhausted, terrified homeless people routinely? KIND OF LIKE YOU! Why the hell are you singling these people out? How do you know there not seriously ill? How do you know people aren't trying to kill them or something?
14
Anything else this kind soul would want to change? Besides itself?
15
(quote)"Why is defending homeless people politically correct but it's okay for Ann Romano to interupt 'One Day At A Time' for humorless, out-of-place urges to support the movement for same-sex marriage?"

Zackary, what the fuck are you talking about? Are you high? This makes as much sense as a Courtney Love blog post.
16
'One Day At A Time' is often full of boring political appeals. I guess Savage is too. I don't want to be classist (self-hating poor?) but the writer of this 'I, Anonymous' does have some point. Why not point out that these 'homeless people' probably have no legitimate reason to live this lifestyle? It's not the 1930's, and you are not Jack Kerouac. Is insulting their hygiene, telling them to get off the train and into the cold night, directing them to a questionable 'homeless shelter', when they may have serious issues really appropriate? Why not point out the fact that these social services organizations may be encouraging disruptive behavior with minimal social benefit? Instead of focusing on individuals whose situations you are not really familiar with, maybe you should consider that the problem may be corrupt, inept social services and ridiculous notions that living on the streets/ squatting/ whatever is necessary.
17
This is the type of I, Anon I pay to read. Great stuff.

If you've never once had a negative thought about homeless people, you're a liar.

Or homeless.
18
Be a man and include your address, so the homeless of our city can come grab a shower at your place. Or, if you can't be a man, shut the fuck up. Dick!
19
Hahah, /hilarious/ poll question
20
I would like to point out the Bud Clark Commons at the base of the Broadway Bridge. The new homeless day center does showers and gives out clean clothes and has a laundry facility AND barber shop on site.
21
Wow, the 'Bud Clark Commons' 'does showers', 'gives out clean clothes', 'has a laundry facility and barber shop on site'? You do not, of course, feel the need to point out the immense cost of this facility, some of which was paid for by taxpayers, some of which was money that could have gone a long way towards paying for housing, job assistance, health care- things that really help people. How many showers are people going to take before they get apartments and jobs? Of course, this facility will allow the homeless population to be closely monitored- get them off the street long enough to allow the 'locals' to sell some paintings of salmon- let people feel good about themselves and/ or get good P.R.

Compare the cost of the Bud Clark Commons to the cost of City Team Ministries or Julia West House, which serve similar functions.
22
Bud Clark Commons.... Fuck that place. I walk by there twice a day to and from work and all I see is people hanging out smoking, dealing drugs or harassing people for change at the Greyhound station which by the way smells like a fucking toilet. Maybe there is some guidelines that those people have to follow in order to live there and programs they have to do but " judging " by the cast characters that hang out around that place it's like a homeless co-ed frat house.

So before people judge me based on what I just said let me say this. I do understand that many people in the U.S. and not just Portland are forced into homelessness because of something beyond their control. Others I assume are just using the term and lifestyle too milk the system and others of their money so they don't have too work or assume responsibilities for their actions. But Portland does have a huge problem on their hands with this homeless/mentally ill people rooming the street situation and they better act fast because you can't just keep ignoring it or shuffling them around.

And by the way. To the person who stated in his little rant that the homeless smell and make him want too vomit. I don't give a fuck if they stink because by the looks of things, the way people dress in Portland and their sense of " fashion " is enough too make me want to vomit.
23
homeless people should not have to bathe.i am prouud to be a homeless bum and live on the street
24
Look, statistics have shown that most homeless people are nuts. The only way to help them is to give them medication. Most don't want the medication.. It's a losing battle. So yes, they should take a fucking shower, but FIRST, they gotta take their meds. Oh, and giving them money for "help" DOESN'T WORK. You can't solve a problem by throwing money at it. They'll just use the money to self medicate with booze.
25
Wow. You have some fuckin nerves to put down homeless people!!!!WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE???..Obviously someone who thinks that they are better because they have a home to go to and have things that most homeless people don't have!!! ...YOU DONT HAVE TO PUT PEOPLE DOWN, ESPECIALLY NOT THE HOMELESS!! HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE CONSIDER TO BE BAD PEOPLE BUT I TELL YOU THIS, WHEN YOU HAVE NOTHING AND AINT GOT NO WHERE TO GO A HOMELESS MOTHAFUCKER WILL OFFER YOU THEY LAST!! THAT IS A REAL MOTHAFUCKER!!!

Please wait...
