The first time I took my bike out in Portland- went to Powells Books at mid day and locked it up out front. As you probably guessed, they cut that cable lock and took my bike. You know, every time - EVERY TIME- someone has an IA posted here ranting (understandably so) about how their bike or something else was stolen from them by some cowardly thieving piece of shit, there's ALWAYS a handful of shitheads ready to make all sorts of snide, snotty, shitty comments. What fucking gives?
It's pretty much like, the criminal is protected by anonymity, b/c ofcourse noone knows who the fuck he/she is. But the moment the crime victim says something about it, they get even MORE cowards talking shit over the internet.
Sounds like OP has learned a valuable lesson: if replacing something worth a couple hundred bucks threatens to destroy your entire life...then yes, I think you need to get a better job.
