You were not attacked on the basis of your sexuality, you were attacked because you inserted yourself solo into a domestic dispute, thus you were not hate crimed. You were assaulted, yes. It sounds like you failed to provide a safe space by not having adequate secruity for your party (otherwise it should not have been you that had to step into the situation). You are very lucky that violence did not escalate, which is what tends to happen in these types of dispute.
