Jesus, how old are you to want to get into it with a 12 year old?
2
That last paragraph is a bit presumptuous considering you have only had one interaction with this girl and her parent.

Maybe she DOES hate cigarettes. Both my brother and I grew up hating them because both of our parents smoke. We both still hate them.

And 12/13 is about that age where kids are starting to really come into their own, on the verge of the teen years. You can't really judge the parental (or lack there of) skills of someone that age just because of these particular actions you speak of.

And maybe the parent didn't hear you. Or maybe they thought it would be rude to discuss your interaction with her right in front of you. Or maybe they just thought you were rude and decided to ignore it.

OR MAYBE--JUST MAYBE--SHE WILL BE SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS PUBLIC HEALTH AND CAUSE AND EFFECT. MAYBE SHE WILL BE SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T RATIONALIZE PERSONALLY AND SOCIALLY DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIORS BY SAYING THINGS LIKE, "THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND WHEN I LIT UP." OR MAYBE SHE WILL BE SOMEONE THAT HAS BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN RANT ON THE INTERNET ABOUT PETTY INTERACTIONS WITH PEOPLE LESS THAN HALF HER AGE.

OR MAYBE SHE'LL BE AN INSUFFERABLE CUNT. I DON'T KNOW. I'M NOT A FORTUNE-TELLER.

You got a sideways look from a 12 year old, and you wanted to turn it into a confrontation? No matter what kind of look it is, if a little kid looks at you, and you find yourself even the slightest bit upset, then I seriously recommend some kind of professional counseling. I cannot imagine the depths of insecurity that an adult must feel to find themselves upset by the judgement of a 12 year old kid.

Seriously. I think you have a diagnosable illness in your brain parts. Seriously.
5
Oh no! A tween gave you a look! And for such an innocent thing as polluting her air with cancerous smoke. Stupid child!

As a smoker, one thing i will not do is pollute the air of children. That means putting my cigarette out when i see one coming. Why is it a bad thing that she glared you down? Good for her! Smoking = death. i'm happy to know that this new generation knows it. Why aren't you?

Furthermore, you indicate that you were on a bench off of a pathway. That means that you were in a park or some other natural setting. Do you not think that children have the right to enjoy nature without your ( or my ) smoke filling everyone's air? i'm glad that she called you on it. And you are a seriously young human to take offense at it. You should have thanked her & learned a lesson. You are a silly human!

Sorry in advance, Kali :(

Even though i hate smokers, i hate BREEDERS even more so! What i hate even more than that are 12-yr-old, uppity, snide, chicken-shit, passive-aggro, overly-judgmental bi-products of breeders! I most certainly find major fault with the parents, but i also fault that nasty little brat, as well. At 12-13, you're old enough to know what's going on and how to behave properly. She's a little shit as is, and she's going to grow up into an even shittier (and unfortunately more powerful) adult - unless she straightens her act out and looses the bitchy attitude right away!

I tell you what man, tweens had better not play any staring games with ME, or it'll be the last thing they ever look at, i tell you!
7
Um. She's a little kid anon, and entering her teenage years. What do you expect?

I'm a smoker and honestly, it's fucking hard to be considerate about it. LOL at anyone who says they put their cigarette out when a child comes nearby. You lyin

@ kali:

if we're going to worry about not wanting to 'pollute the air of children', second-hand smoke from cigarettes in open, outside air is waaaay down the list -- are you not more concerned, for starters, about litte janie constantly inhaling car exhaust, which is much more poisonous??

take your pick: dead leaves or flammable, corrosive liquid.....

the simplest and most crude example of the difference in their respective dangers is how one could lock themselves in a closed garage with 20 chain-smokers for days and survive, but trade those smokers out for just one idling vehicle and you're dead within minutes.....(BECAUSE CAR EXHAUST IS SLIGHTLY MORE POISONOUS TO US HUMANS)

so, let's take care to worry about the more pressing matters before we start putting too much of our energy into relatively trifling matters.

lastly, you note that 'smoking = death'.....wow, it's all that simple, is it?.....what about cheeseburgers, or riding a bicycle, or crossing an intersection, or being driven in a car? -- they = death, too.....

i submit that little janie is far less likely to suffer any pain from fleeting, second-hand cigarette smoke in the outdoors than she is from being involved in a car wreck, getting run down on her bike, contracting type 2 diabetes, or getting hit by a car while on foot.

now, if her mommy fills the inside of the house with a pack's worth of cigarette smoke every day for years, then, yes, THAT'S the time to start pointing the finger at second-hand smoke.

(yes, i drive.....yes, i smoke.....and yes, i try to be considerate when taking part in either)
9
that's a lot of words but i have the same thoughts about people giving me the glare when I smoke. I always wonder if they drove...
10
yes, sometimes (most times) brevity is beyond my grasp.....it's a disease.....stick with me, though -- i'm really trying, and slowly improving.
11
I just realized that my comment may make it seem like I was saying that I hate my parents because they smoke. It's the cigarettes that I hate, not my parents! I am actually quite fond of my parents.
12
I hate kay_b's parents.

Also, there is no such thing as a considerate smoker, just one who had a cigarette recently.

Shit stinks, anon. You can't considerately rip a 5 minute fart in public. You're stupid and you should feel bad.

Given these facts, who can blame that kid's parent for ignoring a stupid, inconsiderate person getting into a fight with some child?

A child who, by the way, was probably trying to save your idiot life. Did I mention that you're stupid and you should feel bad? Because it's true.
13
Well the fact is that you pollute the air around you and show a bad example to society. You can not understand that until you quit... Good luck on that one and stop taking it so offensively. What... You didn't realize smokers are looked diwn at untill a kid looks at you? There should be laws prohobiting smoking in all public spaces and then maybe there will be less people starting to smoke.
14
There is no such thing as a considerate smoker. Tobacco smoke is a foul, odorous substance that permeates the flesh and clothing of the smoker and passerby and sullies the fresh air around it. The smell of stale smoke is a festering reminder of your moral depravity.

As a smoker, you should be ashamed of yourself every time you ignite a cigarette.
15
I'm so ashamed. SHAMEEEE
16
As they hate you, jamdox.
17
@ implosive farts:

'moral depravity'???.....for smoking cigarettes??!!.....

i'm pretty sure those words don't mean what you think they mean.
18
@apeface: I'm pretty sure moral depravity means exactly what I think it means: morals are cultural constructs that help us recognize the difference between right and wrong. Depravity is the lack of, or corruption of said morals.

19
LOL @ this whole thread. And i really try to not smoke in public at all. And yes, i do put my smoke out when kids are coming around. But hey Life=Death so.... whatever, man. Everybody do what they do & we can all have fun judging & hating.
@ Damos~ You're sounding like a sad Mr. Gruff the atheist. Maybe you would find more pleasure & less hate in life if you found some jesus. ;p
20
Why the fuck do you care, I,A? Fuck! Get a fucking hobby!
21
@ brainfarts:

so, then, ANYONE who smokes, indoors or out, alone or in public, is 'immoral'??.....'wrong'???

ok...

i would agree with you using terms like, 'unhealthy', 'disgusting', or even 'stupid', but 'wrong' and 'immoral'????

how about this -- tell me if this is moral: assuming that you're male and that you haven't already had this procedure performed, may i kindly offer to arrange a vasectomy for you, on my dime?

because, man, if 'right' and 'wrong', and 'moral' and 'immoral', are that simplified in your eyes, then i feel it is in my (and everyone's, actually) best interest to do all that i can to help keep you from spreading your destructive seed any further than you've already flung it.....

not everything is so black and white, dude.

anyway, let me know -- i can get the paperwork started ASAP.
22
I would be curious to hear from the smokers why they still do it.
23
Addiction. Flat out. It's an addiction. I've tried to quit a ton of times. Cold turkey/gum/patches/electronic cigarettes/acupuncture/even tried self hypnosis. None of it worked. But it's supposed to take about a million tries before you get it so.
24
@22 ~ because i love my cigarettes & i don't care if i die sooner, rather than later.
25
@gloworm, cause chicks dig it.

But really, it's a social thing. You can learn a lot about a person when you have a smoke with them. In the military, as an example, it's an easy path to promotion when you share a smoke with a superior. Lighting a girl's smoke can start a conversation that gets you laid. 3-5 minutes with a stranger, over a smoke, might just lead to a beer and a new friend.

I can think of about 50 things more disgusting than cigarette smoking. Like fat people. Fuck fat people, and their fat fucking kids. They drive up medical costs for everyone, because they’re too fucking lazy to get off their ass every once in a while or eat healthy. Usually they stink more than regular people, and it’s really uncomfortable to sit next to them. You know who wanted to regulate cigarettes? The Nazis.

Do you think this girl was giving glares to fat parents, sitting next to their fat kids, at the local McDonalds? Fuck no, she’s being brain washed by her school to believe that a personal decision – like smoking – is bad, but to make fun of someone for being fat (which is equally abhorrent in every way) is a mean thing to do.

If we want to live in a society where we don’t tolerate smoking, then we shouldn’t tolerate fat people, or really any unhealthy personal choice that is obnoxious to other people. Personally, I think everyone should be required to read a book every once in a while on social philosophy, because ignorance is equally obnoxious, offensive, and unhealthy.
26
On a side note, Chicostix is a hot girl.
27
The Republican party is funded by smokers!
28
When the society you live in indoctrinates the hell out of smokers that they can't quit until they buy big pharma's "remedies" there is no wonder is so hard to quit. Basically it is all in your brain. When somebody makes you think you are weak and can't quit without whatever they sell as medication to quit (and these messages are everywhere in the media) then there is no wonder is so hard and difficult for most people to quit. Maybe if cigarretes would be more expensive they would? Not sure... But it could help smoke less.
29
@Vel, that sounds like scientology. Are you a scientologist?
30
You people are hilarious... and really stupid.
31
@chimpass: Perhaps you are familiar with the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Believe it or not, this applies to more than oral sex. Smokers live their lives making the world around them less pleasant--the stink; the litter; the untoward sight of addicts huddled outside in the winter, funneling their paychecks to some of the biggest, grossest corporations in the world; the wet, throaty, chunky coughs--yet have the nerve to complain when someone makes their life minimally unpleasant--staring.

At best smoking is a selfish pursuit that brings pleasure to the smoker, while reducing the quality of life for every living being nearby. Smoking is hedonistic, morally corrupt and disgusting.
32
I had no idea I had that much power over the world. Huh. Good to know.
33
mouth-farts:

you win -- i'm 'morally corrupt' because i smoke.

but, just out of curiosity: if i eventually quit, am i then redeemed, or am i immoral for life?

also, i usually roll my own (i even put cute, little filters in them sometimes, which i imagine would help to cut down on some of the immorality, no?) -- does that buy me any morality points, or am i just as fucked as the tailor-made smokers?

what about medical marijuana patients? -- if they smoke it: immoral? if they eat it: moral?

or is it just tobacco?

what if i use a vaporizer?

enlighten me -- i want to know what my chances are of still scoring a ticket to heaven.

34
@iceprez That was very random. And I'm very much not a girl, but I will admit to the hotness.
35
Medical marijuana does as much good for the world as a Nickleback side project. Its morality is irrelevant.
36
the person who wrote this I.A. is a huge pussy. You should have kicked that fucking twelve year old bitch straight in the Judy and then slapped her parents.

Please wait...
