I think the world would be a far better place if people would just acknowledge their own fuckups. How hard is it and exactly what is wrong with saying "Sorry, didn't see you"? For some strange reason the exact opposite seems to happen in these incidents. Is it considered a sign of weakness to admit when you are wrong? Are they embarrassed at being caught doing stupid shit and their lashing out is a defense mechanism?

Some lady on her cell phone ran a red light and nearly kill me last month. When I caught up to her to let her know she just flew through a red light at a busy intersection some sort of Tourette's Syndrome kicked and she couldn't stop saying horrible shit at me.

And by no means does a simple "sorry" absolve a person of dangerous and belligerent behavior. It's just when the exact opposite occurs something is most definitely wrong.

Can we agree that assuming is the mother of fuck-ups? "although it was completely my right-of-way"- ok, i believe you (unless you were crossing multiple lanes of traffic on a bike at faster-than-walking pace-- in which case you legally (and sensibly) might not have the right-of-way. But if you're wrong-- or someone doesn't care-- what good is your bike as armor?

I'm of 2 opinions about this IA. I ride a lot (one of those 'racer guys' that gets bitched about here from time to time). 1-Recently I had a gal texting come over the fog line and almost put me into the curb, which would suck.
I caught her at the next light, and while berating her thru her rolled up window, she took a photo of me and flew off in a rage like it was my fault.
2- The OP admits it wasn't "the smartest move to bike across Broadway right then". So why did he/she go? Or was a law bent or broken? Need more information.

"retarded, morbidly obese quadriplegics"? You should be a dead bug on a truck's grill for that comment alone.

People are sick of arrogant cyclists, not cyclists in general. I've had my share of run-ins with them over the years. The ones that blow through stop signs. The ones that try to squeeze by you in traffic when it's really not smart to do and then smack my car with their hand as if that is my fault. Listen you arrogant fuckers. There is one absolute here. In a world where you are on a 10lb bike you should ALWAYS give motor vehicles room to operate. If you don't, honestly, you deserve what you get. Just don't expect any sympathy when you're too stupid to see beyond the laws and use fucking common sense. We didn't pave roads for bicycles.

Cyclists should think twice about the practice of slapping or hitting a car out of anger. A coworker from a previous job caught an assault charge for doing exactly that at a light at 7 corners.
7
You sound like a pretty big turd anonymous, please stop making it harder for nice cyclists such as myself to get from point A to point B.
8
"...you should ALWAYS give motor vehicles room to operate."

Completely backwards. That's hilarious.

Those all-caps TRUCKS are the WORST.

"We didn't pave roads for bicycles" is a real gem, too. So did we pave them for people who don't give a shit and rarely pay adequate attention but who are driving cars, so it's cool?

I mean, when your reasoning is that far off, the rest of us just have to fill in your blanks.

@disastronaut: You must have missed the line where I stated this: "Just don't expect any sympathy when you're too stupid to see beyond the laws and use fucking common sense."

Why did I say that? Sure, people are supposed to obey driving laws but people break those laws all the time on both sides. And accidents happen. My point is, don't expect the law to save your life. If you see a fucking dump truck turning in front of you, lay on the brakes. Stop your fucking bike. Pull it up on the sidewalk to avoid a collision. This very scenario played out near the Crystal Ballroom a couple of years ago and a young woman lost her life in this instance. In fact, in almost every instance, the cyclist will lose the battle against a 2,000lb+ motor vehicle.

If you people are too dumb to not obey the laws and look out for yourselves instead of assuming that dickhead in the Prius is going to do the right thing, then fuck you. You deserve what you get. This isn't to be confused with lawful behavior where everyone does the right thing and no one gets hurt.

Rich: Why are roads paved? I'm dying to read your obviously intelligent answer.

What's with all the fat ass people driving big ass trucks? Do they think if they drive huge trucks; that they will look less huge?
13
It was your weird generalization, not mine. I'm under the impression that roads are multi-purpose, but I could certainly be wrong.

A couple of weeks ago, I was riding my motorcylcle to work early on a Saturday morning. I was riding north through Tigard on 99W. Long story short, an idiot who just had to get around a stopped TriMet bus almost ran me off of the left side of the highway. Fortunately for me, I saw it coming. I gunned my 900cc engine, laid on the horn, and gave the jackass driver the obligatory middle finger. And then I went on my way.

Now, this idiot could have totally road-raged out and run me down, or confronted me at the next light, etc. and whatever. If that had happened, I probably would have opened a multiple-combat-tour-induced-PTSD can of whup ass on that fool.

Two points I want readers to take from this: 1.) Pay attention to your surroundings and watch where you are going. 2.) You just really don't know who you're fucking with these days, it's really not worth it.

Please wait...
