Amen.

One day, I hope to walk out of any show NOT thinking this exact thing... Doesn't help that PDX is allergic to live music venues between closet-size and Rose Garden. Helpful hint: not at RG? Shut the fuck up.
3
I agree with this. Maybe Doug Fir needs to crappify their acoustics in the back part of the venue.

@Tyler: Like The Wonder Ballroom, Crystal Ballroom, Bossanova, Dante's, Star Theater, Mississippi Studios, Hawthorne Theatre, Arlene Schnitzer, Aladdin, Someday Lounge, Edgefield, Roseland, or whatever Berbati's Pan is called now?

@Aestro

The Wonder Ballroom - Shitty sound and fucking retarded staircase in the middle of everyone's business

Crystal Ballroom - Stopped booking real shows. Just has 80s night every day...also shitty sound unless you are standing in the path between the over/under 21 areas

Bossanova - Not really a concert venue...

Dante's - About the size of the Doug Fir

Mississippi Studios - Possibly smaller than Doug Fir

Schnitz - Fucking huge. And concerts are always $15 to $40 more than they should be here...

Roseland - Ehh, you may have a point, though its just as big as the Crystal

Aladdin - Home of dad rock

ugh. I'm bored

Point taken, bigger than a closet but then you get the drunk 30-something chicks who know ALL THE LYRICS...

One time I was at Bumbershoot in Seattle (not a small club yet full of d'bags) watching Built to Spill and these two guys behind me wouldn't shut up. I asked them if they planned to talk through the whole show, thinking that I would just move. Rather than answer, they just looked down at their shoes and muttered some passive aggressive shit about freedom of speech. But they did shut up.

I know the direct approach doesn't work in a lot of situations, but I've had success when I've used it.

Concerts would be great if it wasn't for all the other people who show up. Every band I go to see I end up losing interest in because I resent their annoying fans so much.
9
If you can hear people in the back chatting, that means the band isn't playing loud enough!
10
This is a massive problem in NYC. I would imagine some of the problem is Williamsburg transplants.

Or just walk the 15 feet up the stairs to the bar, if you're at the Doug Fir.

Jeff Tweedy sums it up pretty well: http://youtu.be/ew3AOlbJXos

lyle, one time I walked upstairs at the Doug Fir and they wouldn't let me back down without GOING OUTSIDE AND STANDING IN LINE AGAIN.
13
The Doug Fir: The land of Scene Queens and dudes in motorcycle jackets who don't own motorcycles.

Just spread some vaseline on top of the toilets, it'll ruin their cocaine!

Please wait...
