Thank you for this. Same goes to the repeated dick (who obliviously was there before me at that four way stop) but tells me to go ahead and go. Thanks for throwing everyone off ya chump!

Fuckin' A Right!
I realize they are just trying to be polite, but these idiots are screwing up traffic all around them.
They should have their license revoked.

Absolutely spot on. Its even worse if the person at the stop sign is on a bike.

And don't get me started on the "neighborhood greenway" crossings like Going at MLK or 15th or 33rd. If a person on a bike is waiting at the east - west road crossing, that person does not have any right of way over north - south traffic. Those little cute pictures of bikes on the signs at these crossings are not traffic control devices and do not alter the pretty fucking simple rules of right of way. And then you fucking wavers honk at me when I refuse to go until traffic actually clears.

This was featured in the Portland brochure and was a major factor when decided to move here. It's so cute!!!

While the I,A is correct, I think this behavior stems in part from having to constantly worry about cyclists blowing stop signs or pedestrians that freely walk in front of cars regardless of speed or distance.

On a related note, how about a turn signal every once in a while? It seems like every time I go for a run I get stuck at a stop sign staring down some idiot that's turning away from the side I'm crossing on but don't use their signal to indicate that.

I've watched a woman stop her car at a green light and try to wave pedestrians across the street as cars were swerving around her to the right. Dumbfounding.

Being nice is nice, except when it impedes the flow of traffic and/or confuses other drivers. There's a fine line between nice and being a traffic hazard. I see Portland drivers cross that line at least once a day. It's frustrating for me as a pedestrian and if I drove a car I probably would have committed several acts of road rage against a few of the the timid, dangerously "considerate" drivers in this city. Don't drive like an inconsiderate LA douche, but try to remember that you're not in some little town with one stoplight.

It's called "the Portland standoff"

Please wait...
